2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

After being completely dominated in 2 of our last 3 games I will be absolutely shocked if DL doesn't get the Conley deal done.

what's killing me, and why we need a trade, is that i can see how good the team COULD be. you slot in a Conley or Porter in to tonights game and there's no way its a blowout, bare minimum. the jazz are SO CLOSE to the next level

Rubio showed exactly why the Jazz are looking to upgrade him to Conley on this B2B. Looked fantastic against the lowly Hawks but up against a legitimate title contender that's missing their starting C and starting PG he can't even make a FG (props to him still having more points than FGs but still). The Jazz are going to need more offense vs Houston or GSW since Gobert's impact defensively gets minimised by their 3pt shooting, and if the Jazz are wanting to contend they can't afford the inconsistent play on the perimeter from their PG.

The Portland and Houston games were also examples of why the team really needs to keep Exum if they grab Conley too as having the threat of a guy who can get to the rim at will without any kind of pull up midrange/3pt game to get the team easy looks at the rim is pretty vital if the 3pt shooting is off and/or Mitchell doesn't have it going, and he fits much better in a 3 guard lineup with Conley/Mitchell than Rubio/Mitchell when he's got it going in certain games.

We need a scorer to help mitch... so obvious. conley mirotic opj don’t care do sth

A few days ago there was talk of Locke mentioning a trade that would make us worse this year but better in the future and wondering who that could be. It’s now dawned on me. It’s a guy who plays the 4, rebounds well, shoots from deep, is currently injured (worse this year), and is under contract through 2030.

I don't believe Otto Porter Jr is the answer at all. He can't create. I don't think he moves the needle.

Conley might move the needle, although I question how much.
OPJR would move the needle a lot. Imagine having someone who can bring a lot of what Jae brings with better size, but hits 40%+ of his 3's.

The Jazz need to get better while also keeping a decent amount of future assets. Its a tough balancing act. They cant be like the Pelicans and just start overbuying and making bad moves just to make moves. It would suck, but the Jazz can afford to have some patience.

Uhh, wut? This game would have been a blowout with Lebron James on Utah.

Agree. The Jazz are relying too much on Ingles and Crowder to score important buckets. They can't do it very often. Rubio, I don't even...

I hope you're not tacitly referring to Kevin Love here. There's a snowball's chance that the Magic would move Aaron Gordon for a PG plus a pick or two.

I'd be pretty shocked

So I was comparing the likely offers the Jazz and Pistons could put together for Mike Conley since they seem to be the most likely suitors. I feel like the Pistons are probably more likely to get a trade done for Conley.

The Jazz could do

Rubio, Favors and a first. I think that is possible if DL feels a move is absolutely necessary for the Jazz. But it's not a guarantee DL would do that. And I'm not sure the Grizzlies accept this because all they receive is cap relief and a late first.

Rubio, Exum, Sefolosha and a first and/or young prospect like Allen or Bradley. The Jazz are reportedly against offering Exum. So I don't think that this happens. It may be our most intriguing offer for Grizzlies though, and it still might not be enough in their eyes.

The Pistons could do

Reggie Jackson (2 year contract), Jon Leuer (2 year contract), Luke Kennard (young lottery pick) and a first that will probably be top 20. The Pistons might even be inclined to add additional picks. I think the Grizzlies will probably see that as better than anything the Jazz can offer. Sure, they have to ride out the contracts of Jackson and Leuer next season before they get the cap space but it doesn't matter because they'll suck next season either way. They still get the cap space its just a year later, plus they get the young player and pick(s) they want.

Ultimately I think that the Pistons are probably far more desperate than the Jazz are in this situation. So I think the Pistons are more likely to get it done.

I'm trying to picture the Pistons' salary structure with Conley, Blake's supermax and Drummond. That would pretty much be their team, and it seems mediocre at best.
