2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

The fact that UTA/MEM are still talking after several days and the fact Utah upped their offer suggest that both sides want a deal to happen.

They're just shaking each other down til the last.

The coastal part of WA is very progressive, while the inside is very conservative. Maybe that's why.

Population/representation is on the West side. Case law has interpreted the WA constitution to not allow an income tax which is a big reason for lower taxes. Despite no income tax, their overall tax are only slightly better than Utah.

Washington is super weird-really progressive with a strong social safety net, but the most regressive taxes in the union. I'm moving there for work, but the place confuses the hell out of me.

Yep, very regressive, but the state constitution is a big reason for that. Where are you moving to in WA?

As far as Conley, I hope it doesn't happen unless it is Rubio, a pick and filler. I don't think he is worth what we get out of Favors. And adding Exum on top is too rich.

You have to be a bit of a savage to be an effective GM. Sometimes I think The Jazz FO falls in love with their own players a bit too much or believes their own "team is everything" propaganda.

He's just so good and burns less bridges than guys like Ainge.

According to the reporting by Tony, it seems like we've upped our offer by adding a 2nd round pick. Memphis is beginning to piss me off because it seems like they're being unreasonable... leaking stuff like "two first rounders for Conley is fair!" when literally nobody in the NBA is going to give them that.

If you trade Exum for Mirotic, you both get a player that gives you something you desperately need (a consistent starter at the 4 that can shoot*) and it's a stealth salary-dump. You'd probably have to throw in a 2nd. Why on earth would NOP keep Mirotic at this stage, and with the Sixers blowing their load for Harris, how are they competition at this point?

Same thing could be said in a deal for Jabari. I haven't done a deep dig on Chicago's cap situation or have any idea what their plan is, but I'd be happy to give the guy a whirl to at least see if it could work.

Bjelica is probably a pipe-dream, but I the fit is still a little weird given Bagley and the timeline with them.
I'd trade Exum for any of those guys.

There are some three team scenarios where we could snake bjelica.

Bobby Marks said the price on Niko and Randle is a first right now... also said he doesn't think they get it. We can offer some savings and seconds and its probably pretty competitive. Exum for Niko straight up is pretty fair I think.

Exum for Niko and I crown DL EOTY. Not just for landing Niko, but showing the fortitude to deal Exum and all his "potential" for a "lesser" known quantity.

Idk, I might trade them the 2019 first plus Thabo and Ekpe for Niko. That seems like a DL type move to me.

FYI, reporting on Conley not wanting to Utah appears to have to do with wanting to go to the Eastern Conference (and be in all star contention) rather than anything personal with Utah...
