The argument was that he didn’t shoot enough threes to be concerned about. Which was arguably true. I don’t believe I have seen a person say he’s not a good shooter.

This. He has been a great shooter this season. The biggest thing imo is that he isn't very good on defense and should rebound way better for his size.

Bingo. The majority (if not all) of my posts regarding wanting Niang out of the rotation were within the context of

A) He was providing little to no assists, steals, rebounds, blocks, deflections, scoring within the arc, etc. He was only providing 1 made three on average per game and only taking around 2 per game. And if that's what he providing he's simply not valuable on the floor because our bench wasn't good enough to carry a specialist.

B) The Davis/Green/Niang combination wasn't working and something needed to change there.

Obviously if Niang is going take 5 or 6 threes per game and make 3 of them on an improved bench then it's a different story.

Everything has context.

Blazers are gonna trade for Kevin Love. It just makes too much sense not to happen. Right? They are 16-23, they are six games out of the 7 seed, and they are in a tight seven team race for the 8 seed. One season after being in the WCF. They are capped out with few ways to improve the roster.

It's a situation where they are either going to completely blow it up or they are goimg to make a big move and attempt to make one last run with this core. And I don't get the sense that they want to blow it up.

Whiteside for Love straight up works. Cleveland would save a ton of money. Blazers could throw in picks if necessary. Love fits next to a healthy Nurkic, Whiteside doesn't.

Blazers regroup with Lillard/McCollum/Love/Nurkic next season when they get everyone healthy.

I don't think that really makes them a contender. But I think they're desperate. And it just makes so much sense.

of course niang wasn't a threat from 3... until now.

he was 1 for 12 from deep in his first NBA season. then went on to miss all of his 3 pt attempts his second season.

he finally shot 40% from 3 last year, on extremely low volume, and was plainly awful during playoffs.

he's been on fire of late and as a jazz fan, i certainly hope he keep it up, which would be difficult since opponents now will be less inclined to leave him open on purpose

but don't pretend by looking at his shooting numbers from his early years, one can make conclusion that he's some kinda threat from deep since he was barely on any other team's scouting report.

Niang was a 4 year college player who shot 38% from 3 for his career.

In 50 G-League games he was a 43% 3pt shooter.

In the NBA he's a career 41% shooter in 123 games.

Stop trying to semantics yall's way into not looking dumb.

The guy has been on the scouting report as a shooter his entire career. It's the NBA, they aren't morons and know how to scout players.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that the Jazz would discuss LMA and DeRozan with the Spurs, but I don't think either team would make the move.

They'd discuss Conley and a protected pick probably. LMA or DD + Mills or Poeltl. I don't think either team would pull the trigger. The thinking would be to keep the ball in Mitchell and Ingles' hands more. Another debate would be how much LMA can play next to Gobert in a big lineup.

Spurs are probably going to lose DeRozan in free agency and they'll pivot to play their young guys.
