I don’t hate the thought process here and Jackson has seemed to be getting his mindset in a better place... Phoenix is a ****** place to start your career since the organization is a mess, but Jazz don’t generally take on these kinds of projects. Mudiay was never lazy or had character concerns... quite the opposite... Denver team let him go but talked him up. Based on his attitude here I think it can be assumed he’s a guy most organizations liked. Jackson’s rap sheet over the last 12 months is a.... concerning.

Yeah depends on what we give up to get him. If we can get him with Ed Davis straight up is definitely a win since we probably have to give him away for free at this point. And the issue with Jackson isn't him not playing hard, in fact he was known to be a player of good motor and plays hard every night while he was at Kansas. So I do believe the issue with him is just dumb kid doing dumb things and putting his energy/aggressiveness in the wrong place. And him being in Phoenix does have something to do with that. Just hoping that playing half season of g league was able to clear his head a little then we might be able to get something out of this inevitable Ed trade when most of us expected nothing. Even if the result turns out troubling his contract expires in the summer anyways

@NUMBERICA I saw someone suggesting on Twitter discussing a hypothetical trade of Clarkson + a 1st for Iggy. Someone said we can't trade a 1st as you've been saying as well. He replied that since we already owe Memphis one we can owe them two. Sounded like hogwash (and I don't like the trade anyway) but I was curious about what the actual truth was on this.

The entire purpose of the Stepien Rule is to prevent teams from trading too many 1sts for their own benefit. This scenario has no bearing on The Stepien Rule whatsoever. It still applied to the Nets when they traded for Garnett and Pierce (where they traded three unprotected firsts but had to trade picks from every other year, in addition to agreeing to pick swaps in the years they weren’t outright trading their picks), for example.

I don’t know if it’s possible to go back and negotiate new pick protections on a pick already traded but not yet conveyed, but that could be a way to make our 1st owed to the Grizzlies convey earlier and making a 1st tradable earlier than 2024 if that is a thing that is allowed. Hypothetically.

Most importantly, that is an absurd idea. I’m rolling with JFC over Iggy without blinking.

Given Dennis Lindsey's history I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up making a move for one of the guys he tried to get as a free agent this summer:

Jamychael Green (the Clippers would be crazy to send him our way)


As I recall both had meeting scheduled with Utah, but cancelled them after the Bogdanovic signing. And I'm still curious about Luc Mbah A Moute. He seems like a two-way player who would be an ideal fit for Snyder's system.

We don’t have a contract to move to get Young and I see no reason the Clips would move Green as he’s one of the few truly big bodies they have who can play decent minutes.

The way we can trade a 1st is by saying it will convey in the first allowable draft after the other pick. Basically an acquirer would view it as a 2024 1st which could be considered really valuable since it is very far in the future... however if it had any lotto or top 20 protections then I think it would have to turn into two seconds or just the obligation expires... so it would be what we call "fake first" where it likely doesn't convey as a 1st but the GM in the press conference can say "we got a first for (insert name)… see how awesome we are". If it was unprotected it would need to be a good piece and it might be smart to do if you got the right piece... a way to capitalize currently on the perceived value of a future pick.... a mystery bag of wonders for some team trying to do "the process".

I think you can only trade a pick 5 years in the future... so if there were protections on the pick it would expire at some point and doesn't have full first round pick value.

The problem with an unprotected pick is obvious and it will really throw a kink/delay into rebuilding in the next few years if you need to... I'm not opposed to putting that pick in the right deal, but the return would need to be pretty good.

We are fantastic through our first 6 and have our best lineups/closing lineups figured out. We are solid through 7 but guard heavy... if we had one more in-between/ gap filler type I'd feel fantastic about where we are. I think 8 minutes of Bradley or Niang might be okay if we had one more piece... or one guy steps up like Morgan that provides something good that we really need.

Like Maxi Kleber (who is not available) would be friggin awesome... shoots the three and protects the rim... so he can fill in some backup 4 minutes and play the small ball stretch 5 for 12 minutes too... so he fills both the roles we need and is under contract for the next few years on a solid deal.

In other news, I listened to Andy Larsen and Eric Walden’s Weekly Run podcast talking about trade or FA targets. They talked about a lot of guys we aren’t and didn’t talk about any of the guys that we are (sans Baynes who they agreed was perhaps unrealistic). Mentioned Richaun Holmes who I’d say would be even more unrealistic. Names were guys like Alex Len. They did mention Udoh, which, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m totally cool with. But they were closing the podcast up and I was about to close it out and get me of them said “now I know what to get you for Christmas [referencing something else]” and then one said “a Georges Niang cameo.” I chuckled at that.

My takes from the pod...

- They haven't watched enough Sacramento... Holmes would absolutely be an upgrade and would be great if he stayed disciplined.
- We are going to clear a roster spot and sign Udoh when he is done in China... guys that go to China are basically saying that they are going to get a big check there and then come back to the NBA. I think we are the landing spot for him. I think he cause some of the same issues Ed did on offense but not to such a degree that it kills us... we also have JC and Conley with DM or Ingles in that group now so less need for the role man to do much. He will give us the rim protection we need and can guard on the perimeter... we will be fine with him on the court for 10 minutes.
- I don't expect much by way of trade to come down the pipeline. Maybe a minor deal.

I think he is overrated in general so I'm good with not getting him. Definitely not good enough to play 5.

I believe China lengthened their season this year. Not necessarily in games played, but they spaced it out more.
