2020 Presidential election

The contempt Trump has for his base, is just amazing. They really do think they’re utterly stupid.

Preexisting conditions have been covered for a decade by ACA. The same law trump has been trying to kill. I sometimes feel bad for Trumpers since their leader thinks they’re morons. And then I read @Heathme and realize that I can’t blame trump for knowing his followers are brain dead zombies.

it is what it is

Could you imagine any president in our lifetimes getting away with saying that?

Clinton after the Oklahoma City Bombing, “It is what it is!”

Bush climbing up the remains of the twin towers with the firefighters and proclaiming with that megaphone, “Hey! It is what it is!”

Obama after Sandy hook, “It is what it is!”

One of my greatest takeaways from this era is how important the right wing media has been to create an atmosphere for this type of spin and how just far gone 1/3rd of our voters are. We suffer 2.5 9/11s per week and, “it is what it is.”

And republicans own this. there’s no both sides to this.

Not until Democrats give Biden passes for killing off thousands, destroying precious treaties, colliding with foreign governments, gassing citizens and holding a Bible upside down, and sleeping with porn stars.

What’s becoming more and more apparent is how scared Trump is. It’s like admitting, “yeah weve ****ed up our response but now we’ve become serious about a plan” would destroy him. Hes so afraid of admitting a mistake. I guess it goes back to his upbringing. And now he’s afraid of admitting a mistake for it might cost him his base (I don’t think it would). So he’s going to continue to demand his people in the west wing to bRing him goofy charts and soothe his feelings. It’s like we’re trapped in a Stalinist regime and everything is going great! The pandemic is great! We are winning! The capitalist pigs are losing! everything is great! That is not hunger or sickness you feel comrade, it is lack of patriotism! Let’s sing a song about great leader and your patriotism shall return!

Meanwhile, The rest of the world sees what a joke our pandemic response has been. Most of the nation recognizes that the collective farms and 5 year plan is an epic failure. But for whatever reason we keep going along with it.

I’m hopeful that college football soon cancels and we get serious about online learning both for college and K-12. I think the faster we get to remote learning this fall, the better. This fall needs to be about staying alive and voting his *** out and saving democracy until better treatments and a vaccines are developed. University of Washington projects 300,000 dead by December 1. That’s in 145 days which means we’re going to average about 1,000 deaths per day from now until December. Yikes

I feel like Democrats fumbled the ball by not getting a stimulus agreement they could take some amount of credit for. Now Trump owns this round of stimulus (for better or worse) and it can be presented as the GOP and Trump wanted to help the American people but Pelosi and the Dems said no, so Trump went over their heads and did what he could to help.

Okay, that said, I think income tax withholding deferments are the stupidest and least effective way to stimulate the economy, but whatever.

Trump gets to take credit for keeping some of the unemployment kicker.

Oh, and I think fighting this in court is a bad look for Dems.

Then there's this though:
Seems like the Republicans are more to blame. Seems like the Democrats wanted to spend (help Americans) too much while the Republicans couldn't even agree with each other and some didn't want to offer any more help at all. Screenshot_20200808-155226.jpeg

I agree. Democrats really screwed the pooch when Moscow Mitch sat on the bill House Democrats passed back in May. What morons...

I guess you could blame Democrats for letting Mitch have the Senate. They should’ve never let Republicans retake the Senate back in 2014.

Exactly. Their measure was never taken up. And Republicans themselves couldn’t even decide what to do. I’m not sure what Chuck Schumer and Democrats could’ve done. Maybe... cried to the media more? Make a larger scene about it? It’s not like Democrats have Fox News and am radio like Republicans have to brainwash 40 percent of the country.

I just don’t know how anyone can blame Democrats for this last issue. They passed their stuff in May. Republicans now are arguing. Those who are fighting for re-election want a stimulus. While those who aren’t fighting for re-election and have presidential ambitions for2024 are pretending to care about spending again.

None of which Schumer or Democrats could’ve fixed. Moscow Mitch controls which bills he brings to the table.

Maybe instead of attacking Democrats we should ask why the **** people in Kentucky keep re-electing Mitch? What has he done For that state? He’s been in there for 30 years yet his state is one of the worst in education, health care, and poverty.

“Why do you keep saying that you passed Veterans Choice?" CBS News White House correspondent Paula Reid asked Trump at the Saturday news conference, during which Trump announced executive actions on coronavirus relief.
As Trump tried to call on another reporter instead, Reid continued, "You said that you passed Veterans Choice. It was passed in 2014...it was a false statement, sir."
Trump paused, then responded: "OK. Thank you very much, everybody." He then walked away as the song "YMCA" played.

Which is to say the GOP outplayed the DNC on this one. The DNC was in a position where they needed to compromise but didn't. They called Trump's bluff but turns out he had the better hand.

Bottom line, this looks good for Trump and bad for the DNC.

To say otherwise is like saying your basketball team actually played better and won the game if you count all the times their shot got blocked as made baskets because at least they tried to take the shot but those meanies on the other team just kept blocking them.

This is kind of a weird take imo. People with UI benefits are going to see a 200 dollar decrease in their payments per week and Trump has sole ownership of that. I don't see this as some great five dimensional chess move.

“A leading national expert on unemployment benefits said one of the actions would not increase federal unemployment benefits at all. Instead, the expert said it would instead create a new program that could take “months” to set up.”

“One of the measures Trump signed on Saturday aims to provide $400 in weekly unemployment aid for millions of Americans. Trump said 25 percent of this money would be paid by states, many of which are already dealing with major budget shortfalls. The federal contribution would be redirected from disaster relief money at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Those funds are not likely to last more than two months, and Trump would not say when the benefits would kick in.”

“Trump’s unilateral actions, if carried out, would provide only limited relief. The White House on Saturday authorized taking about $50 billion from the FEMA fund to pay for unemployment benefits, but that money will only last about five weeks before expiring, according to Democratic congressional aides and unemployment experts. Then the White House probably would again have to ask Congress for money.”

“Trump’s action on unemployment does not funnel additional money to the existing unemployment program, but instead creates a new program for “lost wages” that states will have to set up from scratch, said Michele Evermore, an unemployment expert at the National Employment Law Project. It could take months for such an effort to get off the ground, Evermore said, and states have already been overwhelmed in trying to set up the unemployment insurance programs.”
