2020 Presidential election

Would the GOP exclude you from being a member (I’m not using that as the measure for inclusiveness, FWIW, just responding to the idea that they’re not inclusive for not letting you vote in primaries without being a member)?
See forcing someone to be a member in order to participate isn't very inclusive.
Why not let me vote while being an independent? What reason could there be for the that? Maybe they don't like people who think independently? Maybe they only want people who think like them?

???

Primaries are for the specific party. So of course it's not inclusive. But if you want it that way, then no party is inclusive. I can't vote in the Democrat primaries. Does that mean they're not inclusive? Lol.

What he's saying, is that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, if you want to be a republican, you can. Now, I'm not saying that's the most truthful statement, but that's what he's saying. I just don't think you're understanding the point, and thus extrapolating it too far. Because based on what you're saying, there's no party that's accepting and inclusive.

You can vote in the Democratic primaries without being a member of that party lol. I just recently voted for Bernie (so did my wife) and neither of us are democrats.

So republicans should be able to vote in Democrat primaries?

It's actually a good thing that only registered Republicans and Democrats should vote in their own primaries. That especially matters in Utah and in years with incumbents; do you really want the other party to load the vote and pick the worst candidate to help your true candidate out knowing their own nomination is secure?
How about people are are independent.
I would want to vote in all primaries because I would like to have a say in who the president is. Why is that a problem?

Of course they should. Why shouldn't they? I voted in the Democratic primary and I'm not a Democrat. It really wasn't a big deal.

For the presidential you can. Not so for other elections.

Also varies based on the State.
Actually you can't vote in the Republican presidential primaries without being a republican. You can vote in the Democratic presidential primaries without being a Democrat though.

Which of those two scenarios seems more inclusive to you?

But I also voted for mitt Romney in the Senate and I'm not a part of either party. How did I do that?

Wait how is this even an argument?

just yesterday the Republican president made an anti-Semitic slur at the Ford Motor plant and we’re debating whether the GOP is inclusive or not? Seriously guys?

the GOP shows us daily how non-inclusive it is. It passes legislation that largely benefits rich white males. It daily fans the flames of xenophobia against Latinos and Asians. It daily works to suppress voters from diverse urban areas.

Like even if you knew nothing of Barr Goldwater, Nixon’s southern strategy, Willie Horton, Pat Buchannon, or even Donald Trump. All you need to do is spend a few minutes watching Fox News and you’d see how “inclusive” the party is.

As an independent, you will get your chance in the general. Letting anyone vote however you want in a primary allows both parties to stack the deck in regard to their specific state especially in cases where the mix of D vs. R. are hugely non-proportional. It's almost a bit like gerrymandering in a way. If I was a registered Democrat, I wouldn't want a largely Republican base in Alabama picking a Democratic candidate at 2% in the polls and is a convicted rapist. Same goes if I was a Republican in Vermont and Democrats cross over in an incumbent election and pick someone who wants to bring back the KKK.

Are those extreme examples? Absolutely, but each party should be able to bring their best candidate forward without the fear of shenanigans.
