What's new

2020 Presidential election

Wow, it's almost like the last 4 years didn't happen. If voting were that easy. What about views on migration, foreign policy, trade, the environment, social policy, the rule of law, etc.
You would fall under the category of people who vote for the same party regardless of who's running.

And for the sake of it, just having a normal/decent president, instead of a narcisistic/sociopath/lying one.

Yeah lets instead go with a lying, hypocritical candidate who can't even remember who he's running against or even what office he is running for. GTFO

So the US is or isn't any different than other nations in this regard?

Also Sweden, who didn’t and isn’t locking down like these countries, and doesn’t use widespread masks:

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not arguing no precaution, but this idea out there that masks and/or lockdowns and social distancing is what explains 100% of the variance between good and bad response is silly.

And yet the level of deaths did not increase, even back during that spike in summer.

This is the theme of the Democrats: cases are spiking and we can "control" the virus if you elect us. And after election the theme will switch to the incredibly low death rate. Though not after they try to enforce or extend lockdown related procedures at the beginning unfortunately.

Lol, you don't even know me. You are really arrogant to put people into categories uh?. You don't know even know what country I'm from, what's the political system here, the political parties available, what are my political afiliations or believes. In general, I vote for whoever I feel is better for my country, based on certain values and views on the economy, migration, anti-corruption policies, healthcare, access to education etc.

You seem to be describing Trump.

First, Sweden have a strong safety net and much better access to healthcare than US. Even then, when you compare Sweden to its baltic partners, their numbers show that as a country they failed. It's always about context. For instance, Finland only had 358 deaths. Norway, 282. Sweden? 5938. How is that a success?.

Here is some info for you to compare views:
"The Swedish COVID-19 experiment of not implementing early and strong measures to safeguard the population has been hotly debated around the world, but at this point we can predict it is almost certain to result in a net failure in terms of death and suffering. As of Oct. 13, Sweden’s per capita death rate is 58.4 per 100,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins University data, 12th highest in the world (not including tiny Andorra and San Marino). But perhaps more striking are the findings of a study published Oct. 12 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which pointed out that, of the countries the researchers investigated, Sweden and the U.S. essentially make up a category of two: they are the only countries with high overall mortality rates that failed to rapidly reduce those numbers as the pandemic progressed..."

“Historian Dr. Eric Cervini was driving to help with the Biden campaign stop when he filmed a line of pickup trucks along the highway, many of them flying Trump flags. The drivers were “waiting to ambush the Biden/Harris campaign bus as it traveled from San Antonio to Austin,” Cervini tweeted.

“These Trump supporters, many of whom were armed, surrounded the bus on the interstate and attempted to drive it off the road,” he alleged. “They outnumbered police 50-1, and they ended up hitting a staffer’s car.”

US is worse. And Sweden is not doing much better either, especially when compared to other baltic countries (source is time.com; published two weeks ago). As I already pointed out to Magic:

Has anyone suggested that it explains 100% of the variance? That would be extremely simplistic and narrowminded. But does it contribute to explain some of the numbers? Yup.

I don't have to know your political affiliation because the Republican and Democratic positions on those topics that you mentioned hasn't changed in the last 4 years. So people voting on those topics will vote the same way. I'll reiterate, the pandemic is likely going to be the number #1 reason for changes in swing votes.

Regarding your Sweden post, you go on thinking 5,938 deaths out of a 10.23M population is bad. And even that number, which is already not bad, has explanations to why the handling is better now. Again, we can look at the actual covid numbers to see that deaths have remained level since basically the end of July: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/sweden/

The argument in the beginning was flatten the curve, but now that it's been flattened, the narrative has changed to "make covid deaths zero or else you are a bad person!!!!!1". Ridiculous.

It is a fact that Joe Biden said he was running for US senate at a rally. It is a fact that Joe Biden recently said he was running against "George". Yet to you this seems to be describing Trump. You clearly have your head stuck up your ***.

Also, idk why I'm wasting my time arguing with people here. People's minds are set and they will interpret facts however they want to support their narrative. I'm out.

Well, you said that I vote for whoever is running for my party. That's a stupid assumption since you know nothing about me. And let me say, you are so wrong given how the political system works in my country (admit it, you have no clue).

Regarding. Sweden Yes, I think their response and outcome is bad, especially when compared to other Baltic countries that did take measures. Is not about what the numbers are now, but how thousands of lives were lost unnecessarily. Again, if you look at the graphic and the information I gave you, you will notice mortality rates have declined for most countries (probably due to increased health capacity, knowledge of the desease, new treatments, availability of drugs), but even then, Sweden and US are way behind most.

Am I making the argument that covid deaths must reach zero to open up the economy? Who is making that argument here?

I mean, Trump is a clown. And frankly, a bit stupid. At the last debate, couldn't stop laughing for minutes when he talked about "tiny windows" and "wind energy kill all the birds". We have 4 years of dumb/ignorant remarks piling up ad infinitum. And besides that, he is a narcisistic racist liar.

Yeah, I'm asking myself the same question. Why are you here wasting everyone's time? Go chill outside and drink a beer.

I think school starting had the biggest effect on the spiking.
Fwiw I think opening schools was the right thing to do and I think they should remain open.

Is every other country in the world practicing extreme restrictions also ran by "The Democrats?"
