What's new

2020 Presidential election

It's not about voting for a narcissist vs a senile old man. It's about lockdown vs no lockdown.
Wow, it's almost like the last 4 years didn't happen. If voting were that easy. What about views on migration, foreign policy, trade, the environment, social policy, the rule of law, etc. And for the sake of it, just having a normal/decent president, instead of a narcisistic/sociopath/lying one.

A blue tsunami would not surprise me, and that’s what I want to see. We may be able to make a call on Florida on election night, and I don’t want Trump to be crowing over Florida:

“Democrats are sounding the alarm about weak voter turnout rates in Florida’s biggest county, Miami-Dade, where a strong Republican showing is endangering Joe Biden’s chances in the nation’s biggest swing state.

No Democrat can win Florida without a huge turnout and big winning margins here to offset losses elsewhere in the state. But Democrats are turning out at lower rates than Republicans and at lower rates than at this point in 2016, when Hillary Clinton won by 29 percentage points here and still lost the state to Donald Trump”.
How many registered Republicans will vote for Biden? Seems to me that even small amounts of defectors will be enough to put Biden over the top.

Speaking to my many old friends I am at shock how many of them believe Biden is evil and Trump is saint. Good they are from Europe or Canada and not going to vote. Makes me nervous that there are millions of Americans thinking the same way too...

Trump isn’t a saint, he’s Captain Moroni

People still believing anything Trump says are mindless sheep.
The pandemic is raging because people care more about their freedom to not mask and social distance than they do about their fellow Americans.

it is about selfishness not freedom,

F you and your freedom as you take away my children’s freedom to go to normal school, sports and activities so you can be free to spread the virus. Wearing a mask is quite traumatic for these snowflakes. I guess I should feel sorry for the weak in mind and character. Nah, F you.

This is a genuine question: is that really why the cases are spiking?

Posting these as cases per capita would be a lot of work, but if you look at the case numbers compared to population, it should give an idea. I'm willing to calculate any of them, if you want. I'm not saying this to be a dick, and I think it's the natural conclusion people would come to in the US based on the information we're exposed to, but if the US not complying with masks is the reason for our increased cases, what's the explanation for Europe's (massively larger per capita) rise in cases?

Well, the common theme here is that people stopped taking precautions during the summer, acting like the virus was gone. You see the results now. Many European countries are going full/partial lockdown again.

Why wearing a mask/social distance is still an argument? It takes so little on one's part to take precautions on behalf of others.

This.
And while Europe is going to make progress in containing this flare up, as they’ve done repeatedly since February, the United States won’t until a new administration has been installed in January.

Leadership matters. Look at Asia:

So the US is or isn't any different than other nations in this regard?

Also Sweden, who didn’t and isn’t locking down like these countries, and doesn’t use widespread masks:

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not arguing no precaution, but this idea out there that masks and/or lockdowns and social distancing is what explains 100% of the variance between good and bad response is silly.
