What's new

2020 Presidential election

What does Yang have to offer? Is he a civil rights advocate? Does he promote prison reform? Gun reform? What legislation has he sponsored? Is he promoting economic equality legislation? Is he a former General? Is he a foreign policy womp?

I just don’t see what he offers other than not being a politician. And we all see how that’s working out... After Trump, don’t we kinda want someone who like... knows stuff about government?
Yang's appeal is that he takes a technocratic approach to problems instead of an ideological one. While I would certainly prefer a candidate with at least come public service background, his policy ideas aren't bad imo.

The guns stuff was dumb. I think the Democrats should ease up on that one. Way too many gun owners in america to talk about doing anything extreme at this point. Stick to background checks and magazine capacity and stuff.
I heard Beto say something to the effect of we are coming for your guns. That's just gonna role people up and get them paranoid and do no good whatsoever.

I’m going to disagree and agree here.

Disagree that talking about guns is off putting. Not anymore. Public opinion has moved so far that I think even in key battleground states democrats should discuss openly about gun regulation. People want regulation. They’re tired of the stores, theaters, and schools becoming bloodbaths. They’re tired of being held hostage by the NRA.

I will agree that talking about gun buybacks or confiscation is dumb.

Furthermore, why is Beto doing this?

This makes him look scripted, fake, and making a profit over stuff he shouldn’t. He makes the entire DNC and democratic process look cheap. We’re trying to find out who should be president. This should be taken serious. I’d say only Bernie, Joe, and Warren seem to be treating this with as much seriousness as they should. Yang, Beto, even Kamala at times give me the impression that they’re not ready to be considered serious candidates.

Ugh. That’s the opposite of what I want. I guess he might have some good ideas. I’ll take your word for it since I honestly haven't Cared enough to look at his stances.

I want someone who actually knows stuff. Government, allies, foreign policy. I want a politician. I don’t want some smart *** who shoots from the hip. Or someone treating government like a business. I’d rather see someone try and work something through Congress than tweet out nonsense or body surf.

I’m eager for serious politicians in the mold of Bush I, Johnson, Eisenhower, FDR more than “cool guys that I can have a beer with.”

Give me Warren.

For sure, Warren is at the top of my list by a mile.

The last polls out this past week or two showed 5 democratic candidates beating trump. Even in the special elections they lost this week, Democrats vastly over-performed while republicans under-performed. In a N.C. district that’s been held by republicans since 1963 and which trump won by 12, the Republican candidate only won by 2 pts.

That’s not a good sign for Republicans. Especially if consumer confidence in the economy continues to erode.

I think you’re mistaking what YOU want out of the candidates with what most Americans want. Which is fine, I want candidates to do what I want too. But just know, we might not be representative of what the general voting public wants.

For discussion purposes, which candidate(s) did you like the most from last night?

Yeah, I don’t really care what some polls say. Trump would likely just hate talk and destroy anyone on stage, as ******* as he is or not.

Did you cross your heart? Please don’t mention Great Leader’s name in vain. Great Leader will win against any opponent! Great Leader is better than all leaders ever combined!

Lol, “I want a politician”. The same class of effin politicians that have started endless wars on behalf of other countries? The same class of politician that promises to fix the mess our health care system is in and then doesn’t do ****? Give me a President that really stands for the people, regardless of their background. Career politicians is PRECISELY what this country does not need. And don’t use Trump as an example of a non-career politician.

You wouldn’t dare to call yourself a progressive not caring if someone the likes of Biden wins the nomination would you?

Not all politicians vote for wars. Nor do I believe we need to continue to attack all politicians for the decision made by the Bush administration in 2002.

I definitely don’t want anymore populists. And I’ve never wanted a businessman who wants to treat the government as a business. It’s remarkable to me that somehow for so long people have thought that treating government like a business would be a good thing. It’s honestly the dumbest campaign slogan ever recorded yet it’s still so appealing to people who rant nonstop about how crappy their jobs are then vote for a politician who wants to run the government like a business. It’s yet another sign of our society; clumsy, stupid, and unserious about government.

I disagree with you, I believe we need more politicians in government. Right now we have too many populists, reality tv stars, and arsonists in government (the freedumb caucus). We need less people focused on their brand and appearing hardass by swearing (Beto) and more Expertise. We need more economic specialists, more foreign policy experts (I can’t remember the last time we had a pres like this), and more financial Wizards (like Warren).

Imo, we need to stop electing people who remind them of their beer chugging buddy. Sorry, but the president should be a helluva lot smarter than the guys I go out and drink with.

As far as your last comment, I’ll support whoever the Democrats nominate as their candidate. Biden or Warren. I don’t care. I hate trump.

I have to see more about Warren, I can’t help but think of her as that angry teacher that won’t let the kids move an inch away from their desks, ruler in hand.

Don’t like many of her policies but she’ll have my vote over trump.
