2020 Presidential election

It's weird that anyone would be surprised by either candidate winning.
In a 2 party extremely partisan system both candidates should always have a pretty good and even chance of winning.

Seven months into this, it’s apparent we have no clucking idea what we’re doing.

I’m sick of this ****. If locking down for a few weeks to get this under control is the plan, fine.

I’m tired of doing nothing and expecting something to change.
This pandemic will never end of Trump is re-elected. Seriously. The organization, planning, distribution of PPE, medicines, and vaccines, and testing necessary to defeat it won’t happen if Trump is the guy still calling the shots.

The headline:

Biden says he'd lock down country if spread of coronavirus warranted it

If you are in opposition to this, you are saying you would oppose the lockdown even when it was warranted by the4 spread of the coronavirus. Do you really take such a fundamentally stupid position? Do you oppose life guards pulling out swimmers from a pool when they swimming warrants action, because it interferes with the swimmer's freedom?

New York and Boston are *not* shut down. People are eating (out doors) in restaurants, working out, going to the store, etc.

Last I heard, there is unlimited congregating on Zoom for religious purposes.

Why do you think the Republican states are being so hard-hit in this virus peak. Does it have something to do with letting people infect each other?

I agree with you that Democrats care about protecting people, while Republicans care more about protecting pocketbooks. Well said, it is an easy choice.
This idiot here is a perfect example of what you can expect from a Democratic candidate.

Yeah things are not shut down. You can't eat inside, but you can eat outside in the 30-40 degree weather at a few select restaurants. Who cares about all the restaurants that don't have outside dining or have permanently closed down due to the excessive lockdown restrictions put in place. And absolutely nobody cares or wants to dine indoor. Trust us, we're the Democrats and we are here to protect you, for your own good.

excellent find. Totally dispels the ridiculous argument that “both sides are the same.” One of our major parties has moved far into extremist illiberal positions. One party clearly doesn’t want to play this game of democracy anymore. One party is embracing authoritarianism.

This 2020 election is yes about policy. But More than that, it’s an election about whether we even want a democracy anymore. Democratic socialists, moderate Dems, and never trump conservatives should unite. We can argue about what the appropriate level of taxation should be once this crisis passes. Trump and the GOP must be defeated.

Historically speaking, a candidate as shallow, listless and insipid as Joe Biden would never win a Presidential election. I know we're talking about Biden v. Trump, but still.

Another point, how and why did this happen?

Having a right wing echo chamber might make a ton of money. It might build up a loyal brainwashed base. But ultimately without hearing diverse opinions, the mechanisms that have build up Republican dominance politically at both state and federal levels, are acting as mechanisms for their own destruction. Fox News and am radio were assets for years. Are they anymore? What do you think?

Karen Stenner has an interesting view on this. Her research indicates that 30-40 percent of the population is vulnerable to having an authoritarian personality. Here’s a great interview:
And
What do you think?

I disagree. Historically speaking every democratic and republican candidate in history has had millions of voters vote for them. Its a 2 party system like I said. And currently its at its most partisan so its even less suprising for either candidate to win since its historically unique right now in how our voters vote. Its also historically unique in that its two of the worst candidates possible.
No one would be surprised by the result this year, or any year really but especially this year, no matter who wins
