2023 NBA Draft Megathread

The thing that hurts this draft a lot, or the perception of it, is that a lot of the (perceived) 2nd top tier guys have been disappointing. Whitmore/NSJ/Whitehead/Lively/Proctor/Mitchell (off the top of my head) where all pre-season projected lottery picks who have been underwhelming.

I think the nerds like us get excited about the mid-tier talent, but when you hear the talks about strong/weak it's usually referring to top end talent.

Yeah, the way I'm seeing this class play out is that a lot of guys who were in the 3-8 range have fallen stock, so they feel like 10-14 level prospects....but there are a lot of guys who weren't on draft boards who also feel like 10-14 level prospects now (Brice, Howard etc). I feel like there are only 3-4 guys who feel worthy of a top 8 pick, but there are like 15 guys after that who feel like they should be in the 8-12 range. It will be an eye of the beholder draft, and there are going to be a lot of guys that go a lot lower/higher than peoples expectations.

I think this is exactly how drafts are perceived as being either strong or weak.

I still remember how 2011 and 2013 were both considered “weak drafts” and only ended up having one star player in the top 4 of either draft. . . while multiple All-Stars were drafted outside the top 10 - Klay Thompson #11, Kawhi Leonard #15, Giannis Antetokoumnpo #15, Nikola Vucevic #16, Rudy Gobert #27, Jimmy Butler #30 and Isaiah Thomas #60.

Besides that, several quality rotation guys who were outside the top 8 in both those drafts as well - Kemba Walker #9, CJ McCollum #10, Steven Adams #12, Kelly Olynyk #13, Marcus Morris #14, Tobias Harris #19 and Bojan Bogdanovic #31.

This feels to me like 23 will be a draft that will be compared to those two down the road.

NSJ is talented.

Not having an amazing game or anything, but he makes Arkansas way better with how dynamic he is.

Late just watched the Bama game for a couple minutes and thought #15 was Brandon Miller. Was gonna comment on how great his proportions look for basketball, lol.

Never did find the actual Miller…

Delivering a gun to his teammate that was used immediately after in a fatal shooting where Millers car also got hit. Sounds worse when its summarized like that though. At least DA office and police are not suspecting him of any crime and Millers attorneys version of the story paints a picture of a guy with bad choice of friends more than anything. Also haven't heard anyone from defendants side putting any blame on Miller.

However even if fully acquitted it still puts his off court judgement (choice of friends in particular) into question that might impact his draft stock.
If all this had come out just days before the draft… maybe, but he’s going to continue to impress in the months ahead and he will go between 3-5 or 6 at the lowest.
Miller is an elite shooter with size. He's not really elite at anything else. His defense and rebounding aren't elite.
Reminds me a of more than a few stars. Sometimes all you need is elite shooting and length with elite skills.

Just watched Brandon Miller shake Anthony Black on an iso for a pretty left hand layup.

You just goofy if you are sticking with the early season critiques of Miller's attacking/finishing potential.

Noone is q Miller anymore. Accept for defense. But the accessory to Murder is not out the window if any other key witness steps forward and implicates him, hence removing the prosecutions need for his testimony against the shooter to save himself. His baggage cart will absolutely hurt him at the time of the draft and should have if it is ignored. If someone from the victims fam doesn't take a shot at him before that anyway.
You cannot tell me he had no idea what "could happen" when he drove up to the location, and there wasn't any gun play until he did
