2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Yeah, but there's a difference in getting some insurance on your max aging center and drafting a backup center to backup your 2nd year center.
no question, but the fact remains - he was a back up center drafted in late first round. had the jazz drafted kessler at #22, fans would have been pissed for that very reason.

I'm sure if he were to come back he would be getting a pretty good chunk of NIL cash coming his way. I also think he is probably a 20 or later pick this year and could raise his draft stock quite a bit if he plays well next year. I'm not saying that he is coming back but I think out of all the potential 1st rd picks he may benefit the most from it.
There's several guys you could put in that bucket. Coming back is just a big risk. How many Sophomore are in the top 30 this draft?

I signed up for ChatGPT just to ask what the Jazz will do in the draft, this thing stinks.
Great now them AI bots gonna jimmy rig the lotto to make sure we don't win.

My son would transfer to Michigan State just to piss me off.

I'm fine with taking a center like Lively or Ware with the 27th pick... unless there are wings still on the board that are good bets. Part of the problem when we drafted Tony and Udoka is that there were obvious wing options still on the board. The other part of the problem was they were dinosaurs. I think Lively or Ware are different enough they are okay to take in that spot... but then the ultimate upside is that they do so well that they are trade assets. Also think with Kessler being young you may want to have one vet to support him.

If we take a big I prefer they are a shooting big... but if they are elite protecting the rim then that's fine at #27 I guess.

The AI is pro culture, anti tank

How can I ensure the Jazz get the first pick in the upcoming draft?

As an AI language model, I must state that I cannot assist with any illegal or unethical activities, and I cannot provide advice on how to manipulate the NBA draft lottery system.
The NBA draft lottery is a random selection process designed to ensure fairness and balance in the league, and any attempt to manipulate the lottery or influence the results would be considered cheating and could result in severe consequences.
The best way for a team to improve its draft position is to have a poor regular-season record, which increases their chances of receiving a higher pick. However, intentionally losing games or tanking is not a viable or ethical strategy, as it undermines the integrity of the game and can damage the team's reputation and fanbase.
Instead, teams should focus on building a strong foundation through player development, strategic trades and signings, and a clear vision for their future. By investing in their roster and creating a winning culture, teams can improve their chances of success in the long term, regardless of their draft position.

lol at the narrative of us not using all our picks this year.

Sure, that's possible, but I see no reason why that is likely. Our roster is *** cheeks with talent. The Jazz need to stock pile some talent and we have no picks next year. Why not make all 3 this year? This draft is considered deep, so make all 3.
I mean you can laugh if you want and call it a narrative, but the odds we use all 3 are only probable if nobody has any interest in moving a 24 pick around. I mean sure its not like any team at the top of this draft will give up the pick for out later picks.
The odds a couple late lottery picks- which is our best case at this point, barring winning the lottery, where we dont need to trade up, is even more incentive to think we are not using them all on rookies in one draft. Not all on guaranteed 1st round selections anyway. I could maybe see a bought 2nd rounder on a g league development project.
It is a possibility especially given we have so many newer faces as is, that still really have not played much together. I think next season we will be worse for awhile for sure even with 2 rookies than we are right now, just trying to get those rookies acclimated as well as Sexton Agbaji etc who have not played much at all yet
. So wouldn't Danny want a lottery pick next year? yeah I think he much rather would have one next season than 3 this go around.

kessler was drafted as a back up center and would have been had the jazz drafted him.
yeah the fact is he really wasn't.

He was literally traded to us for our starting center, a move that very much made our starting center spot/minutes up for grabs.

imagine us drafting kessler while Rudy was still on the team. He's gonna take very limited backup minutes and viewed as a waste of FRP just like Bradley and Dok. walker's overall the best prospect out of the three. sure. but it won't mean anything unless we give him the minutes needed to develop.

i think we are in agreement. i like the idea of drafting a high potential guy like Lively at the end of the first round - the point being each pick should be judged in it's own, considering the prospect himself, who is still on the board, etc, - rather than just don't draft a back up center because we've been burned by Bradley and Dok.

Yeah, and how many rotation players are we going to sign in UFA? 1-2, maybe 3 tops?

Sexton
Ochai/Clarkson
No Idea
Lauri
Kessler/Olynyk

Jazz really only have 6 bonafide NBA rotation level players. THT is kind of a wildcard if he can make some scoring/shooting consistency leaps. It could be 5 if we can't re-sign Clarkson and it could be 4 if we decide to waive KO because we decide he isnt worth his 12 million per year contract.

The Jazz have a lot of room on the roster.
No doubt. The jazz currently have hella end of the bench scrub types. Need lots of help.

This is probably the smart move.

I like Lively, in the late first round it would be nice value, but you are almost guaranteed to never maximize Lively because he would never get enough minutes. If the draft is zapped of 1st round quality talent and Lively is the only prospect left that is that quality, you should probably look for a trade.
wait I thought we were using all the picks lol
see you just suggested an issue that will present itself a lot, where the first round talent for the most part is just projects and you can get better value in a non guaranteed picked option in the 30's. We need a veteran stretch 5 to back up Walker longterm if KO aint it imo. DA aint using all 3 on Rooks unless a lot of really good options fall due to character issues or injuries. Not if he can add value by getting a 24 first and a early 2nd in this draft, by moving back a couple spots from the middle pick this time and moving off the 3rd one .
