2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Okay, great. You could add more talent (TWO max players?) in addition to Wemby.
We’d have to drain all of our assets to do that. With trading Wemby it’s one asset only this year while retaining every single future pick we own.

Well, those are not mutually exclusive.

What separates Steph from others besides the shooting is that he doesn’t pound the air out of the ball. The best approach is to have crazy on-ball prowess but allow your team to run an actual offense. This is also what made every Chauncey Billups team so strangely good relative to their on-paper roster. Sharing the ball is more than just racking up assists.

Like, the Mavericks were really good without him last year in the playoffs without him. They were better with him, but I honestly didn’t think they were a ton better with him. They didn’t just add him on top of what they were doing well, they dumped a lot of what was working well so he could dribble the air out of the ball. That’s a limitation on the ceiling of the team as much as anything else is.
Like if Harden/Trae/Luka/Westbrook/Jokic don't have the ball in his hands then what are they. People underestimate how difficult it is to be find these guys the ideal teammates.

Luka is the highest usage player in NBA history and he’s been on teams of mediocre success except for basically his whole time there. He’s the ultimate floor-raiser. He’s incredible. But his next gear is learning how to let others touch a basketball and flourishing when they do. He still has plenty of time to do that but that is not who he is and honestly that’s not a common trajectory for any star.

Wemby will make ~$12 million. Luka makes ~$35 million. That’s >$20 million more in cap space and I don’t know how that is either not clear or how that’s a relative advantage to having Luka.

I’ll still take Luka over Wemby plus 20M in cap space.

Luka by himself has made more WCF than us since 2007 and he’s only been in the league since 2018. He is on a trajectory to be a top-15 player of all-time.

One advantage is we have Lauri, who's already like the perfect fit for those ball dominant stars. But I'd still prefer a two way wing and Wemby could be one of the biggest(literally and figuratively) two way wings the games ever seen.

It’s actually $30 million difference and that is fine, but all you’d have to do to get two max slots is dump THT.
Right and then trade every future pick we have.

If we just traded Wemby for Luka we get to keep half of our future picks if we used the other half for another star.
