My thoughts are I wish I was taller more athletic and really good at basketball.Thoughts on Lauri at 60 mill a year?
Its the cap percentage I would look at. Imo 30% is fine for him, but even though Im a huge fan I agree with those who say that 35% should be reserved for top 10 caliber guys.... or at least they should have their own tier.
Ofc Lauri hasnt probably reached his ceiling as you dont usually just jump directly to it... so maybe if he can keep the 29+ PPG on good efficiency he had in the 2nd half of last year and add 2-3 more assists per game then I think he might get up there as a top 10 guy.
The good news for us is that we get to see another full season from him before anything can be done so he has an opportunity to prove that last year wasn't some kind of fluke. I don't believe it was but we have seen tons of players over the years have huge years and then fall off drastically. The guy that always come to mind for me is Pervis Ellison. His 3rd year in the league he put up 20pts, 11.2rbs, 2.9asts, 2.7blks and .9stl. Now a days he would have signed a max contract that offseason only to fall off drastically over the next few years. This might be a hot take, I don’t Know. But if he’s improved from last year he might be top ten

Agree with this. Numbers-wise, Lauri's extension is going to look huge. However, as a percentage of the maximum cap in a rising cap environment, it should be fairly reasonable. If we can get him long term with some some wiggle room on the percentage over overall cap, you do that and call out for lunch. Its the cap percentage I would look at. I feel like it’s a move that keeps them in the middle. That pick is four years out and AD is currently 30. It will be an era where they’ve phased out of LeBron. They’re occupying a lot of cap with an aging big with an injury history who, while phenomenally talented, isn’t going to raise the ceiling much without a lot of help. Or, conversely, won’t raise the floor too much in combination with health questions and games missed.Hurts the pick
They'll have Reaves and AD and they draft as well as anyone in the NBA and always have a shot at good free agents.I feel like it’s a move that keeps them in the middle. My hope for that pick would be that they are a middle-of-the-road team, or a bit worse. Or being on the very lowest range… like somewhere in the 9-13 range as far as picks. That pick landing top 5 and losing it to only get a second rounder is a huge buzzkill, so while having better draft position is ideal, you’re also, in parallel, increasing the chances of losing that pick altogether.
I’m almost certain it’ll be traded long before that pick is ever made. They'll have Reaves and AD and they draft as well as anyone in the NBA and always have a shot at good free agents.
