2023 Trade Rumors and Gossip Involving the Jazz

Given the scorched earth approach we took at the deadline, I'd be surprised if we didn't at least try to retain JC. Surely he had some sort of trade value, a rash of 2nd round picks if nothing else, and if Danny didn't want him in the fold I bet he would've taken that vs. keep him around.

He doesn't really need to get his act together all that much. If he wants to be a loud mouth **** talker that everyone hatesit's not really an issue. The thing with Brooks is that he just takes too many bad shots. He plays his *** off on D though and if he has to be the way he is for that too happen that's not a big deal in my book as long as he isn't taking bad shots.
He needs to reign it in a bit… he went through his Draymond Green dick punching period so maybe he’s ready to control the chaos a bit.

It’s a no for me cuz I can’t stand him but I’d get it if we did.

JC is a better trade asset right now… hang with me here…

Any team with interest and any team he’d have interest in would likely need us to work with them on some sort of sign and trade. 2 options…

Full sign and trade but would require the acquirer to be hard capped and all that BS.

Second option and this is what I think happens… he opts in with the understanding we have agreed to move him somewhere he wants to be. We take back an expiring or bad salary and get something for our trouble. He extends with his new team who is not hard capped. Everyone wins.

Sure I'd take Murray but Hawksquawk (FWIW) seems to believe if he's dealt it would be part of a package for a KAT or Jaylen Brown. ATL just gave up a big package of picks for him last year.
Well they might lose him for nothing in a year, too, so that’s a factor.

I'm really curious about Murray. I went back and looked at his numbers and I'm curious about his other-worldly rebounding numbers his last two years in San Antonio. I know those weren't good teams, but still. I don't know a lot about the personality stuff or chemistry issue, as that always seems to be the underlying implication, but he may be the perfect buy low guy. There can't be a consensus on who a "buy low" guy is because it's an oxymoron but he may be the guy right under our noses.

Same.

The way he played early this last season, facilitating and moving the ball and taking better shots, would be the version needed, moving forward, but the way he regressed later to the black hole isnt what the new version of this team needs.
Regardless, he’s 30+. Just not on the timeline IMO. Jazz should be trying to win games now but they should also be patient and diligent in not rushing the job.

I thought the reason he didn’t sign an extension mid-season was because he was worth more on the market than what he could be extended for - I doubt he cooperates with this scenario

If we were to concretely talk about the drawbacks to Murray, what are they? I know one is his efficiency. Some don't think his three point percentage is high enough. It does look like, though, probably the biggest thing hurting his efficiency is that he doesn't get to the line.

We probably didn't pony up the full amount we could and he wanted to see what the market would be. Once he sees the teams with cap space are like Houston, Orlando, San Antonio, Utah... and that he can't get to his preferred destinations without our cooperation. Now that he could be a FA which team is going above MLE for him? Full MLE is like 4/52M... he could opt in and extend and get like 3/48M... or do a full sign and trade... but the team acquiring him would then have all sorts of cap restrictions that come with accepting a player in a sign and trade.

If I was placing odds...

- JC opt in and trade at 40%
- JC sign and trade 15%
- JC take MLE from someone 15%
- JC sticks around on a somewhat team friendly deal 30%
