2024-2025 Tank Race

On this date last year the Jazz had the 7th worst record vs the 5th worst record now. So, they performed slightly worse so far but it does not look like a serious, dedicated tank at all. The entire difference in the standings is probably due to the mediocre start by Lauri, otherwise the Jazz would be exactly in the same place as last year.
If the Dallas game had flipped on us I think we'd be pretty golden. I think we started off with a pretty dedicated tank but seem to be throttling down some of the main things that we shouldn't if the tank is to be successful. Sexton getting more minutes, Cody being in the G, Juzang playing over Brice. Lauri's back spasms should have been another game or two.

Atlanta just got a hefty fine for sitting Trae. I wonder if teams get really scared. One thing that OKC did was just straight shutdown Al Horford like 20 games into the season. No injury... just shut him down. That likely would not fly right now.

We need more Keyonte at pg and more Cody minutes once he's played well in the G. We will also need a trade. If not we will end up 5-6 (which was my expectation). I am now greedy and would love to land 3 or 4 by being just a bit more grimy.

Walker -> CHO would be a bogo tank trade. Eliminates a tank competitor and helps our tank. They have all their picks plus two extra. I seriously think they can make the play in with Walker.
Might even be able to do Williams for Walker and we get a pick or two. We can take a look at Mark Williams and maybe he actually stays healthy.

I doubt they do anything. I think the new ownership will likely take a patient long-term approach but that's just a guess.

Thats what you want. What do you think they'll do tho?

I think we have a run of semi-competent basketball... not like .500 but like 7-13-ish. They make a meh trade at the trade deadline (Sexton, JC, Collins are the most likely candidates imo) and proceed to be really bad. End up in the 5th spot +- one spot depending on injury and how gross other teams get. Its just that the door is open right now to put major distance between us and Porty/Hornets/Nets/Bulls and sink slightly below the Raps. Once everyone gets in the mud its hard to get as dirty as you need to be.

I think there is like a 25% chance DA decides he is done effing around tho and makes a Sexton or Walker move around 12/15 when the trade market opens up and ends up getting in front of everything. Would require taking a lower price on one of those guys and not sure he has that in him. If he dealt Sexton or Walker to LAL he will also end up taking an ego hit with the media being all "can you believe they got Walker for one first round pick? Ainge has lost his fastball".

NBA fined the Hawks $100k for Trae Young not playing through Achilles soreness last week.

1. The Hawks are not tanking at all and are trying as hard as they can to win as they don't own their pick and are out of the postseason right now. Probably the stupidest possible target to make an example out of.
2. This feels like a warning shot at the Blazers and Jazz.

They did it because it was a NBA Cup game and they are trying to push the NBA Cup

We should be targeting BOGO tank trades. Charlotte is fine, Philly (who has the worst record in the league while TRYING to win) and NOP are better.

The 76ers gave officially joined the tank race. With 3 allstars and 1 mvp, they're some how convincing the league they're not intentionally throwing games. It's going to be crazy when they get a better pick than us

I’m more worried about the teams with potential to be worse than they are now (CHO, CHI, BKN) than the teams who are certainly going to be better going forward (PHI, NOP).

I’m sorry, that’s weird. The record as it exists is information we know so putting greater weight on speculation is just weird.

The Sixers in particular are in a pressure cooker about this that might push them to tank harder than any team in the league due to their pick protection which they could actually duck if they simply stay the course. Maybe that will be hard with the ascension of McCain and the return of Maxey, and maybe sitting Embiid and George actually makes them better, but that team sucks, they don’t like each other, and they have no leadership.

We have been playing a lot more young players. Also, in spite of the position we have more losses per game. So it isn't the same position.

The way I see it, things change at the all star break. If we end up losing the last 20 games like we did last year then we have a distinct advantage vs last year.

Is it weird? We're 15ish games in and we can't speculate on how the rest of the season will go? I prefer to take the information we've learned so far and try to analyze how things will develop over time.

If Minny falling down ( which may happen) as there will be some reefs soon in the locker room ( specially if Rudy get 15 rebounds per game and see the ball 3 times in 44 minutes...), we may have golden picks this year. Hope we remain bottom 3 and Minny pick could ended 10-12.

Rudy has a grand total of 13 FGA in their last 3 losses. That is less than his total offensive rebounds (15).

He is not gonna be quiet about his lack of touches for long if they keep losing. Could already be vocal about it in the locker room.

Alvarado is out for a while still. Herb I believe is close but maybe a week away. I guess what I am saying is that team is already pretty mid without Zion. Ingram gets an ankle or a knee and they won't have to ask all those guys to sit as they will suck already. Trey/Ingram/33 yo CJ is tough to bank on being healthy over any kind of long term.
This what they call "the organic tank"?
