I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Fox's trade value. I agree that Sexton+Collins would be good incoming, win now assets for SAC....but I'm not sure we'd be getting back two premium picks.

Something I'd like from SAS is the future MIN draft capital they have. I want to further line up our future Ant trade.

IN REALITY, we could have gotten Wemby two years ago. The luck just didn't fall our way that year. The following year, a team with worse odds than we had two years ago got the #1 pick.

Our chance of getting Wemby was much, much closer to San Antonio's chance of getting Wemby (11% difference) than SA's chance of getting Wemby was to not getting Wemby (72% difference).

It just so happened that they were the team that got lucky.
 
Sexton doesn't friggin pass the ball. Like EVER. He doesn't run an offense. He is an amazing competitor - as in one of the best competitors I have ever watched. Never takes a night off. Goes all in. But he is all about ISO play. His 3 point shot has come a long way since 2 years ago. That's great and all, but when Isaiah Collier comes on the floor we watch a point guard. When Sexton is on the floor, we watch him drive and shoot. I give him about a 15% chance he gives up the ball when he has it.

Fox is a PLAYMAKER. He understands timing. He runs an offense. He is lethal from all 3 levels (as is Sexton) but his mindset is not selfish. They are VERY different players. Playmakers that understand how to run an offense have a very high value in the league. ISO players fall below that value. And that's why Sexton has been available for trade for most of his career and Fox being available is a huge deal.

There are LOTS of scoring options in the NBA. Sexton's efficiency has been a real uptick this year. But the ball rarely moves when he has it. Sexton is a variation of Keyonte George in 3 years if George doesn't learn how to move the ball. ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO (pass?) ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO Pass.
 
And of course everything is lining up for SA. Eff them. Fox wants to go there and magically a pick they own now becomes more valuable because of an injury. Yet the Twolves are iron men incapable of injury even tho they play 57 minutes a night.

Crazy how he averages 4 APG when he never passes.

I’ve thought about Keldon Johnson as a trade target in the past. There was time where I definitely thought he was overrated, but he’s really fallen off the radar in recent years. His shot has also gone awol.

I think he’s a decent flier. In some ways he’s like the combo forward version of Sexton. High energy, not much brains. He’s not nearly as efficient but at least has the size/frame to be more effective as a defender. He is someone I wouldn’t mind rolling out as lead tank commander for the second half of the year.

Sexton has graduated from that role and I’d like to prioritize Collier/Key/Harkless.
 
As of now, the return for the Mitchell trade looks really disappointing.

The Jazz traded Mitchell for

Lauri Markkanen (two great years, but during a tank. Currently having a down year and unclear trade value)
Collin Sexton (two good years, but during a tank. Will probably be turned into a late first)
Ochai Agbaji (traded along with Kelly Olynyk for a late first, roughly was traded for a mid second in value)
2026 and 2028 swaps (almost certainly extinguished)
2025, 2027, and 2029 picks (likely turned into the 2031 Suns first)

So our total value from the Mitchell trade is now

Whatever Lauri is traded for
Whatever Sexton is traded for
One middle of the second round pick
The 2031 Suns first

As Sexton and Lauri being good provided no value as they were trying to tank.

Hopefully Lauri can regain his trade value next year to be moved at the deadline and make the trade look OK again.
