2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

i have little problem with the jazz keeping sexton and collins. they are really good and could help the jazz if they are still around when they are ready to make a go of it. the biggest issue with keeping them around is that they help the jazz win - so if you're going to keep them around, they either need to use their imaginations on some "nagging" injuries that will keep them out or give Hardy a strict minutes restriction for them.

Why would Sexton ever agree to this, lol.

Sexton is still trying to prove he belongs in a large role in the NBA and is playing for a contract, why would he agree to intentionally miss games when healthy to help the Jazz tank when helping them tank increases the odds of replacing him?

Same reason any team would. Because he is really good and they want to keep him?

But Sexton is far less valuable to the Jazz than basically any other team. The Jazz are defensively inept and lack big ball handlers... That's the exact opposite of the situation that Sexton should be in.

Sexton also probably only has 3-4 good years left (small gunner guards age horribly) and the Jazz will spend most of this timeframe throwing games.

I caught a lot of flack for saying I would trade him for nothing. My logic was that if he was a FA, would we sign him to the deal he's on? My answer would be hell no and I think most who want us to tank would be the same thing. I understand that there's a desire to "win the deal"....but it's not always about getting more value than the other team, it's about whether or not you yourself are in a better position after the move. If we traded Sexton, it wouldn't be a move where we say "we need a guy just like him" after. In fact, we'd be trying to trade the other guys most like him on the roster.

You asked why the jazz would give him a new contact. I answered. If they give him a new contact then it's because they think he is a good player and want him on the team.
No need to over think it.

Except the Jazz would have to value him more to significantly more than basically every other team to want to re-sign him (as he would likely need to be overpaid to stay in Utah after so many years of shameless tanking) and the Jazz should pretty clearly value him significantly less than most of the league. There are few situations where Sexton fits worse than with the Jazz personnel currently.

Theres reports that the lakers offered the Jazz the same package for walker as they did for mark Williams and the Jazz said no.

Would you have done that?
