2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Saw an interesting discussion about Randle for Collins.

Utah could get back their 2025 2nd rounder. They could ask for swap rights in 2028. They could add Patty Mills in the deal and ask for TSJ/Minott.

It would get the Wolves below the 2nd tax apron, which would be their main incentive.
My completely unqualified assessment is that it would make Minnesota significantly better so that’s a non-starter. We don’t need more picks, we need better picks.

I dont disagree, but there might not really be anything out there for Collins at the end of the day. Does it make them better? It possibly does, but Collins is overall less talented.

Then its really pretty simple... just keep Collins. I ain't doing Minny any favors this go around. Randle is also a classic floor raiser so would not want him here.

So what would be the point of the trade? Randle would come here to ball to get a new deal somewhere else. We don`t need players that raise our floor like that,

Who says we need to trade Collins? And even if we did, I’m not trading him to improve the only team I want to have a worse record than the Jazz. The West is strong enough that there still isn’t a guarantee that the Wolves make the playoffs. They’re probably a play-in team.

I know Randle is considered to be the worst player to ever touch the court around here, but I'm not sure that Collins would be considered an upgrade over him elsewhere.

Randle is good but I think he represents one of their biggest risks to chemistry/the team imploding. They also may end up doubling down and extending him rather than watching him walk for nothing. I think the trade makes no sense for us... I will hunt for seconds elsewhere.

If we want him we could pursue next year in FA. He'd potentially add a couple wins for us. Minny might be 6s tho if Ant gets hurt having Randle over Collins is helpful to staying afloat. His creation would get more important.

You're talking about a team that just traded for him. I'm guessing they've already considered what Randle means for them.

I get why people doubt Randle, but we have gone way overboard here with that. People act like he's literally the worst player of all time. There is no chance in hell they would trade Randle for Collins straight up and the thought of them giving up assets to do so is insanity. I can't even bring myself to think about it from our perspective because there's zero chance of that happening from the MIN side.

I think it at least makes some sense for them. Aside from the money (which is not small... talking like 50Mish I believe) its John doing the things you want from Randle more efficiently without some of the bad stuff (or maybe less good stuff in this case). I don't know if its an improvement or raises their ceiling but its going from a locker room problem to a locker room solution. That stuff matters and has been out there.

They might do it straight up if they are cutting costs. I don't want to do it as I would rather have them cut costs elsewhere that might hurt them more. Its just a weird deal concept all the way around I guess. I can see how someone would get there but nah. Maybe both teams say no but I think we'd say no faster.

Randle is good... he is not unflawed. He has been good for the Wolves. Hate has gone too far on him generally. Fit does matter and he isn't gonna fit perfectly but its okay.

Like if the choice is cut costs on Randle or move Donte for cost cutting stuff I don't know what I would prefer.

To me, Randle is like a modern day Al Jefferson. Sure, a pretty good player, but hasn't ever shown that they're very conducive to winning. Let somebody else overpay him. I'd rather keep Collins if this is the only trade that presents itself.

Fit wise I don’t actually think Collins is much better. IMO the main thing that has made Collins more successful (and made him a better fit with MIN) is his improved versatility with the ball. Randle was already good with the ball and they actually need better on ball play. Right now Ant is kind of stranded with Conley aging and DDV being awful. Randle may be a little heavy and the ball hog side of things but they do need someone who plays with the ball in their hands. Collins is greatly improved but Randle has been multiple time All NBA playing with ball in his hands.

Either way, I think they’ve performed at similar levels this season. Numbers seem to favor Randle clearly, but I think Collins has played great. But as we know current performance =\= trade value or opinion. If that were the case, the Jazz would be in big trouble with one of the worst contracts in the league. I’ve been a Collins apologist and am really happy with his play, but I think we’re kidding ourselves if we think the Wolves would give up Randle for him. I won’t even bother looking at it from our perspective because that’s a hard no from MIN’s side.

If Collins actually did bring them under the second apron it’s somewhat reasonable….but they aren’t close even after this trade.

I think HOU might be one to watch with John Collins. They are probably angling for a star player, but they have tons of assets of different value and plenty of expiring contracts. They probably aren't super stoked about the play of Steven Adams and Jock Landale this year.

Would Cam Whitmore+expirings be enough for John Collins?
