2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

What are you, some kind of spurs fan? The jazz get absolutely hosed in that deal. All we get is a decent vet but past his prime, another vet but a ****** one who might not be in the rotation and then some mysterious prospect that probably sucks and our own pick back that we probably won’t convey anyways. I’d rather just keep Collins and Sexton.
The Jazz can just keep the Chicago pick. The Spurs probably pass on this, it is very much a buyer’s market and Sexton or Collins alone might net one bad 1st. I’d rather have a good first than two bad ones, and it’s a bonus cuz it probably actually conveys in 2026 (when the Jazz might not have a single draft pick as currently constructed).

Furthermore, Sexton is probably gone after next year, so by your logic (‘we probably keep our own pick’) we are keeping him to tank another year? That makes no sense.

Finally, yes, I want the Spurs to do better this year.

Why would you want that over a 2028 Kings pick? The Kings are pretty well set up to be a solid team for years to come. I don't see them blowing it up. They got a great fan base and will probably be content being a spunky playoff team for years.

If you really want the Jazz to keep the pick, just tank another year
As for long-term planning, that might be the best, but tanking sucks so ****ing hard. Please, no. I'm invested in just throwing this season, but I need to get back on track here.

I don't see our obsession as Jazzfanz to get back our pick from the Thunder. We obviously have no chance of losing it this year.

Next year we have to end bottom 8 which is very likely even if we get Cooper Flagg.

After that, there is no loss of a 1st round pick. Protections are gone. We keep it.

Sure, we want to be competitive next year but I would rather have other assets than claw back one we most likely never gave up just doing what we are doing.

We really need to finish bottom 6 or 7 to feel really comfortable that we end up with a bottom 8 pick. I don't think it's a huge leap to think we could be better than that next year. It means we have to do more of this sitting players like this year, which I don't blame anyone if they don't like it.

Trying to get our pick back from OKC is shortsighted, but I get why people would want to do it.

Also I think it would be hard for our guys to stomach sitting while healthy again next year. Especially if we landed a top 2 pick this year. I think the players and coaches would be chomping at the bit to win games next year. Tough ask to tell those guys to just keep sucking *** and sitting while healthy for another year. Tough ask for the fans too.
I think if we don't trade anyone by the start of next season then we don't tank and give up the 19th ish pick to the thunder and shrug our shoulders.

It’s partly why I’m so interested in what we do this deadline. The tank is going well this year… but we’ve managed it a lot. Not sure we want to do this much for another year and a half… so make a deal.

Locke says this is year 1 of 3 probably… if that’s the case just move Lauri this summer cuz what are we even doing here.

I’m just glad we tanked our asses off to draft Cody Williams so we can worry about this question. Totally worth it.
cody williams should be 2 lessons. first, do not ever tank half a season go all in or all out. this compete hard half a season and then tank just is not smart. second, you have to pick the year you are going to tank hard. some draft classes just dont have great players. others have superstars. last year's draft was horrible in terms of generational prospects. 2025 and 2026 are much better draft classes. tank accordingly.

Let's at least give him another year before any declarations

At some point I did mention if we should finish outside the bottom 10 to convey in a bad draft
Meh. We had a shot at top 4 and we ended up falling two spots. We also had a shot to take McCain or Carter and took Williams. It happens. We likely end up sending OKC nothing and Cody has been a valiant tank commander.

Sure, it would be nice. But i don't see the need to target the pick return when it is in our control to keep it doing nothing.

If we suddenly picked up 2 all stars next to Lauri and Cooper Flagg then losing the pick means almost nothing.

If the plan is that this is year 1 of a 3-year tank, then we really should have just traded Lauri last offseason when his value was so high.

The good news is that we have been able to tank just fine….but what was the point of Lauri being here exactly? We wasted a prime year of his career which sucks for him and we also slashed his trade value. The tank situation is good but it’s certainly come at a cost.

I think the FO had higher hopes for the young guys. If Key developed, Hendricks never got hurt, Cody was as good as they expect etc…..you might be one good draft pick away. So I guess the point of having Lauri here is just in case major internal development occurred and suddenly we’re kinda close. But that definitely hasn’t happened.

Tank has gone well, but certainly it’s come at the cost of other things going poorly. I think it’s very risky to keep Lauri in another tanking situation because if he has a repeat of this season he will be seen as a majorly negative contract. Might become the new Lavine.
