2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Sexton to SA makes so much sense. They have a bunch of good second rounders and some ability to provide other non-first draft comp that could be first round or better value.

The trade I keep coming back to is Sexton for Zach Collins and the Charlotte first the own (it is lotto protected this year then turns into seconds in 26 and 27), the Utah second rounder they own in 2026, and a swap with Cleveland's first for the lesser of the SA first this year or Atlanta first this year lotto protected and if the swap doesn't happen we get another second.

Even if you can't convince them to do the swap I think doing it for the equivalent of 5-6 good second round picks (they own future seconds from NOP, Denver, and a bunch of other teams) makes sense since we don't have a lot of seconds. We "lose" this trade and its tremendous value for SA but it provides us a different type of draft asset we don't have and they have an abundance of... collecting good seconds along the way pays off for them.

They also may be waiting on Fox but that would happen this summer and Sexton would be more useful than the picks and Collins as ballast as the Kings don't want to take a step back. Sexton/Johnson/firsts could go back.

Finally Sexton could be a great fit with Castle and Wemby. Like they have the pieces to make that work and limit the downside. It just makes so much sense to me.

I think you could maybe even add in John Collins for Barnes/Jones to get the Chicago pick (or something insanely convoluted that equates that value)?

I would trade Sexton for the best thing that's available right now and not be picky about it.

Probably time. I am a big fan of his and enjoy the Sexton experience but we are neutering his next contract value. We have to accept we are going to lose the trade. Give me a solid offer (I can't imagine SA and Orl wouldn't provide at least 3-4 second rounder type value).

Top-40 2nds.

The answer is in part because he helps US win games over what we have.

The fact that he's better than guys like Cody and Collier (on offense) hardly makes him a trade asset. Playing losing NBA basketball is the story of Sexton's career. He can have hot streaks, but so can anyone in this league. People can dream up as many fantasy trades as they want, but Collin isn't going anywhere – unless Ainge is willing to take an L and basically gives him away. Even then, it's unlikely.

Sexton didn't have a market after his career season, which is the closest he's come to winning basketball... so he damn sure doesn't have a market now.

Sexton would eat with that squad especially since Victor has so much gravity at the rim and on the perimeter.

My guy, are you aware that much of Sexton's scoring on THIS team is made possible by Lauri standing way out on the perimeter, off the ball, with a defender surgically attached to his hip at all times? We're playing a lot of 4 on 4 and that's a dream scenario for a tiny jitterbug guard like Sexton.

I love when posters act like there are 240 perfect NBA players out there and if a guy has a flaw he's not a winning player... in spite of copious amounts of evidence that they do some things at a very high level.

Obviously he does some things at a high level. That was never the point.

Again maybe you are just a ppg simp or don't know ball but that year that he racked up big stats by being completely selfish on a bad team was not his best year as far as being a winning player. You also don't know what his market was. Maybe they were shopping him but wanted a lot for him. Calling that the season he came closest to playing winning basketball is truly hilarious. He has gotten more efficient and has modified his game so he eats within the system rather than being the system. He's made himself one of the best shooters in the league and now matches that with his speed. He has improved greatly.

His market wasn't great the following year when he was a free agent if that is what you mean... but there was a serious knee injury and there were more questions about his game. Hilarious you think Ainge couldn't give him away but go on and continue with your hatred.

My guy... you are aware that Lauri is very good but just the offensive on/off splits have Sexton at +9.3 and Lauri at +3.3. While I am sure Lauri is helpful Collin doesn't need him to be successful and Wemby has as much or more gravity than Lauri does... while also being a great passer. He would eat.

Me personally, I don’t even care to discuss how “good” Sexton is. It doesn’t really matter how we feel, his perception is what it is and the Jazz did not give him the opportunity to improve. Maybe I’m wrong, it can only be proven by him being traded for something good…but the idea of Sexton being beyond what he currently is (good backup/needs upgrade if he’s a starter) isn’t even something I consider anymore. That possibility has been buried.

Imagine thinking this guy is not a winning basketball player.

Actually, your video shows exactly that: it was Sexton's defense, or, rather, the lack of it, that allowed Young to make a game-winning shot. Young had only 4 seconds to make it and Sexton has not even tried to slow him down. And he did not have an excuse of being too short: Young is shorter and Sexton is probably faster than him.

That is the main knock on Sexton: there are quite a few players who can generate offense on his level but Collin is literally one of the worst defenders in the NBA among the vets.
