No smoke around it, but I think a Key trade makes a lot of sense for a lot of teams. Could make a lot of sense for the Jazz as well after the draft.

Just any team that's look for a cheap performer. I don't think teams will view Key as a starter, but I think he's done enough to be seen as a rotation player and he's a cheap one/easy to match salaries with his rookie deal. He is at $4.5M and $6.5M the next two years, which is very doable. In other thread we were talking about Sexton to MIN....It's hard to do because of salaries. But Key would work there and give MIN what they were hoping for with Rob.

Brice could be seen the same way. Hard to get that level of shooter on this cheap of a contract.

Keyonte and Brice are unplayable in the postseason currently, they are quite arguably the worst defenders in the entire league and lack the volume and efficiency on offense to make up for that.

You don't see Bones Hyland in the postseason.

yeah I guess I could see a team seeing them as good regular season innings eaters with some upside. Depends on what we end up doing. Key might be good as a sweetener in a bigger deal to close the Ainge gap maybe.

It’s sort of a more mild version of the decision to trade Kessler last summer. We’re probably going tank and I think Key is probably going to play at a level that is beyond replacement level. How Key is seen as prospect is one thing, but there’s definitely going to be teams that value his current value on his current money more than the Jazz do. So there’s some potential for trade there.

I'm not sure, kind of rare for a player to be traded in Key's situation. I think that seems about right though. Key would probably be above the median expectation for a 17th pick and I think him being two years into development is plus for them. But who knows, I just think it's a situation where he's worth more to them than he's worth to us.

I like the Key/Black swap more tbh. Two players in a similar situation who both got recently downgraded and would fit on the other franchise better.

We can only do that if we fire Boler. Black played football in HS.

Orlando trading 25 for Keyonte or Minnesota trading 31 for Keyonte is probably his ceiling value wise.

Getting benched as a second year player on a 17 win team is pretty brutal for perception.

For the record I want to keep Keyonte for at least another half season. The list of players that can play with his usg% and ast% is not very high and include some of the best guards in the game. If he can get his TS% to what he's accomplished at times, but not consistently then he can be a very special offensive player. I would like to see if he can make that 3rd year jump in to better efficiency. Even if you aren't on board with keeping him long term because of defensive concerns then he would at least be a much more attractive trade piece at that point.

I've come down off of my Keyonte high, but I think it's pretty nuts to trade him right now. There've been too many positive signs ahead of a possible 3rd-year jump.
