2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

For the record I want to keep Keyonte for at least another half season. The list of players that can play with his usg% and ast% is not very high and include some of the best guards in the game. If he can get his TS% to what he's accomplished at times, but not consistently then he can be a very special offensive player. I would like to see if he can make that 3rd year jump in to better efficiency. Even if you aren't on board with keeping him long term because of defensive concerns then he would at least be a much more attractive trade piece at that point.

I wouldn't be looking to trade him, but similar to Walker last year I'd poke around to see if someone values him both for his potential as a prospect and for his current ability.

I also wonder what would happen if there's overlap with our pick. I'm big on the fact that we shouldn't let guys like Key or Collier affect our draft decision, but that's because I would put the #5 pick in much higher priority.

Silver-lining take:
Keyonte's overall game has been improved by so many reps as the lead guard—but now that he and the FO know that he's sliding back to his more natural role as a scorer and secondary facilitator, he's currently preparing for what will be his best season.

I can understand the optimism about Key’s future and the pessimism. But however you feel about, that should be reflected in his trade value no? It’s not really clear to me that the Jazz would be higher on Key as a prospect than other teams at this point.

The outlook on Keyonte is kind of a wash for what I’m saying. If you think he’s good, than there could be a team that also thinks the same an offers the right value. If you think he’s bad, than why should we hold onto him so tightly? I’m obviously not saying a trade would happen if the Jazz are still higher on him than the rest of the league.

The possibility of trading him is related to his current level and his contract. He’s an above replacement level player on a cheap deal. That could mean something to another team, but it doesn’t mean anything to the Jazz. So if there is a team who feels exactly the same as the Jazz do about Key and they find that contract useful a trade could happen.

I think we can somewhat project Keyonte's season next year. He will probably get to ~42% FG and ~35% 3FG decent passing #s with bad defense. Now what is that worth to us? What are we thinking in terms of extension money?

I still have a lot of faith in Keyonte being a really good player and wouldn't want to trade him but I agree that the FO should be fielding offers and if the offer is good enough then I'm ok with trading him.

We are NOT in the business of throwing away young guys who have shown upside beyond their current production. Key is definitely one of those guys.

Besides the only teams looking to make an offer for him would be teams who believe he has levels to reach. But that is the exact scenario where we should not trade him. NO ONE would buy Key because they think he would somehow contributing to winning as is. Its a paradox where we expect the buyer to overpay for the same stuff we overvalue... so if we ever were willing to make such a deal then that would signal any buyer we know something they dont.

I'm really looking forward to pick#5 and a good piece via trade. jazz roster is a mystery. We can only unlock their tru potential if we get a true #1. Hopefully pick#5 can lead the team.
