2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

I had thought the Jazz angle on a Giannis trade would be as a third team to receive Bridges/Towns/OG as they would likely need to trade 2/3 to get Giannis. But it seems like POR would be the team to get involved from that angle. They own a lot of MIL’s future draft control.

As far as the Jazz trading for Giannis, you guys are not serious people.

It is very hard for the Jazz to put together a package for Giannis right now due to the salary situation and the pick uncertainty. Both Giannis and the Bucks should just embrace sitting him for the rest of the year and prepping for the offseason when almost every team gets another 1st rounder to trade and there’s more roster and salary flexibility.
I also might just gamble if we’re up against rental prices (because the approved-list teams will either have crappy assets or a crappy team afterward) if we can keep enough to immediately be awesome. I just don’t see Giannis pushing his way off a contender.

I'm not a cap guy, but I don't see how the jazz can acquire Giannis because of salary-matching issues. Unless we send Lauri out.... which obviously would blunt any interest that Giannis might have. It would have to be in the offseason, and it would have to involve Walker on a sign-and-trade.... right?

It aint happenin

Where does Giannis end up? Any guesses?

NY? KAT isn't an appealing target these days and NY doesn't have enough to offer.
Dallas for Anthony Davis and a bunch of picks? Kyrie, Flagg, Giannis... Works on Trade Machine.
Spurs? Vassel, Barnes, Castle, Harper + all the picks (up to 3). Looks attractive. Works on Trade Machine.
Miami? Herro, Wiggins, Jaquez, and all the picks... meh. Works on Trade Machine.
Warriors? Butler, Post, Podziemski, Kuminga + all the picks (up to 4) for Giannis + salary dump Kuzma. Those warriors picks are more attactive because when Steph is dead they have nothing left in theory.

Some attractive packages surely will be on the table.

That plus all the picks gets the deal done. We would need to sign some more players though.

But I don't think that is as attractive as the Warriors could probably do because our picks values are going down. Then again, we have plenty to choose from.

I am going to go on a limb here and say if it happens now its San Antonio or maybe Houston. I think I'd bet on it being an offseason deal with NY though... they can offer a couple picks at that point, one of the wings (to send elsewhere) and KAT.

Milwaukee gets to see where they land in the draft before figuring out what to do.

I think Utah would offer Kessler, Bailey and this year's unprotected draft pick, plus the Suns pick, the Lakers pick and another pick. For a team that's rebuilding like Milwaukee, that's worth considering. It's better than what New York will offer.

Jazz would build around Keyonte, Lauri and Giannis and retool during the offseason. Deal needs to happen in the summer after this year's pick is secured and Kessler's free agency is resolved.
No we would not offer that.

Houston is a team to watch with the Adams injury now. They need to cut like 7M to get under the tax and have a lot of future obligations coming. Wonder what they do to either help save the season or help the long term cap health... or both.

We could basically absorb Giannis in the offseason and just send picks and young players. We could keep Walker or sign-and-trade him for Myles Turner (I think Milwaukee will want that and we’d need a center).

This year doesn’t make any sense for the Jazz. I also don’t think it makes sense for Giannis and the Bucks either. He needs to recover and reset, and the Bucks should tank while they have the magical opportunity to do so while being on the wrong side of a swap.

Quite easily actually. Nurkic/Anderson/Ace/Niang works just fine.
