2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

One idea been rattling in my brain. Supposedly Lakers would like to do the thing that Phx did so they can trade more picks. There are some ways we could do it and they'd likely be inclined to work with us since we own one of their picks already.

I wonder if you could make the 2027 pick they owe us a swap where we get the 2 most favorable of Utah, LA, Cleveland, Minnesota and give them the second most favorable of the Utah/Minny/Cleveland pick in 2029... Would that be enough to get the 2026 pick and the 2032 pick (maybe top 5 protected)? It allows them to trade the 2028 and 2030 picks unprotected (maybe we get one of those instead. Right now they can only trade one pick.

I also wonder if we should get ahead of the Kessler FA and move him... so maybe that is layered in here and we get 26/28/32 picks?

This would be the final payment of down payment theory lol.

28 has to be a swap. 29 is already sent to DAL. Bet they regret sending that one out for Luka!

I addressed that though... I am giving LA the 2nd least favorable of the Minny/Cavs/Utah in 2029.

Windy saying that OKC is exploring Hartenstein trades. Seems like they know they can't keep him. I think he's an ideal system fit at C.
Hardy waxed poetic about Ihart when he was in NY. I'm sure he would be over the moon.

Weird OKC would do it now though. So what if you lose some asset value... you are trying to win a title this year.

This is just hoarding behavior.

Hoarding starts when accumulation becomes more important than the utility of the things you own (nothing is useful if it can’t be found or is rotting).

In the Walker version of my deal above... LA could still have about 30M in space. They could waive and stretch Vando to get another 5M. Maybe move Laravia's 6M or Ayton's 8M. They could essentially talk themselves into Doncic, AR, Kessler, FA additions core.

I thought they wanted to turn their 2031 pick into multiple firsts?

The Jazz goofed with the Kessler situation, but I think that's a pretty terrible package for for him. Seems like 3 picks, but you're actually giving up 2.
I like the 26 draft a lot better than I will like the 27 draft and the other pick is the middle part of a swap... so its better quality. I think if the writing is on the wall you would be hard pressed to do better.

Not sure Wiz come hard or if the Lakers make an offer so big we wouldn't match. We could leave the Kessler piece out and do something different if they have other deals lined up that they want to do.

I'm not sure if the relationship will be a marriage of convenience... and if we want to use our space or other assets on a long term option then this speeds up that process.

I think they want to free up picks... no matter how they do it. I think they may have a few trades they want to do that aren't quite worth that big of a pick. IDK.

It's a crummy situation that we put ourselves in, but I wouldn't give him up for what is basically a 32 FRPs. I think the exchange of other picks is fairly even across. If we get into a S&T situation, this is probably about the most we could expect though.
