What's new

A bunch of Biyombo game footage videos

The bigger point is I've been racking my brain trying to think of the last guy coming into the league who I was absolutely sure would be an impact defensive center. I know there must have been somebody before Duncan, maybe Okafor, but that's how rare guys like him are.
Yeah, if you just look at 7-footers who you project as shotblockers - you'll end up with alot of busts but when you look at "defensive centers who can block shots as well as move their feet" the list is alot smaller (Joakim Noah, Sean Williams, Okafor).

Forgot Noah. And you're observation about shotblockers is spot on. It's easy to project college guys who should match up at the next level and will block shots. But it's not often you see a center who will match up AND be a force in team defense.

This. I'm mostly still on the Biyombo bandwagon, but Numberica, since you're the most enthusiastic about Biyombo, please address this.

That's what happens when you play hard. In any given draft, #12 and on is a crapshoot, so if you get a couple of decent years out of him before he blows it then cool. Also, some people are just averse to injury and I'm hoping he's one of them. To this point, there have been no problems, and a guy that can explode off of one foot like that is an absolute marvel (considering his base weight as well). Well worth the risk.

Biyombo was exposed in a workout.

1) Yes, so "exposed". Because people thought they were going to get finesse and jump shots out of the guy.
2) Workouts are more important than actual games.
3) There aren't about 3 or 4 threads discussing what you just brought up.

Off to bed.

1. Apparently it was more than jumpshots, guy.
2. Who said that, homer?
3. Um, OK. So I can't share my thoughts on him, mediator?

Is he really a Center though? My only concern is that he is a defensive PF, and that is a bit less attractive.

One NBA exec put it best: “If you liked Biyombo going into today you are going to be set aside the weaknesses he showed and realize that setting couldn't have been any worse for him. The guy is not a jump-shooter, and no one is going to draft him to be one. You need to see through that. But if you came in here with question marks about him you surely came away with plenty more things to worry about. All in all, people who liked him will continue to, and those who don't will as well.”

I don't know how it really hurts him, if you can afford to draft a defensive guy with limited offensive ability (like the jazz can) you go for it, otherwise you stay away from him.

Since most of the teams offenses in the lottery suck there is a chance that Biyombo falls but how far. I think if the jazz don't take him he goes 8th to Detroit, seems like a likely destination for a decent offensive team that needs a defensive presence to get the city excited again. If not than 11th to Golden State who we know has plenty of offense already. I wouldn't plan on him being available at 12.

Jazz trading down to 7th with the Kings, who would probably want to grab Knight before the Raptors do, is a possibility if they really want Biyombo and aren't in love with taking Knight at #3.

There is always a risk of trading down though, don't know if another teams trades up and snatches the guy you wanted from your grasp, than you are screwed

I just don't know if there is a clear guy among Kanter/Knight/Walker that the jazz should take at 3, which is why bismack isn't that big of a reach at 3 to me.

If the jazz had 1st or 2nd pick it would be easy draft Irving or Williams. But at 3rd there should be heavily consideration for a guy like biymobo.

Wouldn't plan on it, but wouldn't trade up for it, either. GSW drafted a defensive guy last year in Udoh, and have Biedrins on the front line as well. It'd be a hard sell for their front offense to use two lottos in the last two years on defensive big men.

Yeah I just remembered about Udoh. Detroit at 8 still seems pretty solid, Greg Monroe is strictly a offensive player that could fit well alongside Biyombo.

Who else would they take? DraftEpress has them taking Veesley. I'd think they'd rather have Biyombo.

go to 2:13. On the offensive end, that's all he needs to do for me.

HAVOC on the defensive end. ****ing awesome. Love at first sight.
