A Place for Conservatives

The scientific consensus in the 70s was that the Earth was entering an immediate ice age.

That was absolutely NO the scientific consensus in the 70s. There was ZERO scientific consensus on global warming, global cooling, or global stasis (no trend) in the 70s. You need to discern alarmist media reports (if it bleeds it leads) from real scientific studies. Do some research that is not based on validating your bias. Let me get you started.

Okay, I guess I'll give you an honest response, knowing that it's going no where.

I've met actual libertarians. Real ones who studied the philosophy and thought about it/discussed it for a long time. They're usually indifferent to religion, and they foresee the freedom given to individuals as a vehicle for massive change. They're pro transformation and change, and they don't want the government to stand in the way. They don't care about abortion, sexual orientation, or anything like that, and they wouldn't want the government to have the power to interfere with such personal decisions.

You're not a libertarian. You're a mainstream religious conservative. Like the Tea Party. Ya, you like to label yourselves libertarian, but ultimately, you want smaller government because you don't like what you perceive as the direction the government is taking us in. You're a traditionalist.

That's all fine and good. What's not good, is your hostility toward some things that you don't seem to understand at all. Statements like "liberalism failed wherever it was tried". The fact you can type that with a straight face indicates that you have no idea what liberalism even is! Liberalism has been tried and failed?! lmao. Liberalism is the basis upon which the entire Western Civilization stands! You're using the word the way Fox News uses it. Without meaning! Same with socialism or capitalism. Your incredibly simple minded statements about them boggle the mind. There's no "capitalism is good, and socialism is bad" for adult society! The world doesn't work like that. Do you know what a mixed economy is? If you're gonna be a douche, be an educated one, man.

You make a great point about what being an actual libertarian means. It’s no surprise therefore that there is some common ground with what’s perceived as the far left, as crazy as that may sound, in terms of the role that the government should play in our lives. I find there to be much common ground in terms of foreign policy as well.

Also I think that some have a different view from others on the meaning of left and right in politics, I guess depending on their sources of information.

Usually it's based on your point of view to begin with. Everyone believes their beliefs are reasonable, logical, and therefore centrist, since obviously their ideas are the most balanced and reasonable. So from that point of view they see anything that doesn't fit their own view as either left or right from there. Hence the view of many on the extreme left that politics has "shifted" so that centrists are the "new right", rather than being intellectually honest and admitting that their own view have shifted extreme left and become even more immutable. We are in an age where confirmation bias is so strongly reinforced through immediate access to similar viewpoints and ability to deride dissenting opinions through the immediate feedback loop of social media, that even those who may previously have accepted other opinions as valid are becoming engulfed in the political quagmires at each end of the spectrum.

This thread is massively disappointing. Heathme, grow as a person. Learn and grow. Be better.

As far as I can tell this is your first contribution to the thread, and that's all you have to say? No liberal knowledge to impart upon me? And if you're not a liberal, no conservative information to share?

Any comments on the many articles, videos, and information I shared?

I have a comment for ya
