Overall Conley has been very good for us. He was absolutely awful in the Dallas series. There are a lot of reasons we lost that series, but Conley playing as bad as he did is pretty high up there.
I think most points of view regarding Conley are fair. He has been one of our most consistently good players on both sides of the ball for the majority of his time with us. He's never complained or created drama. He's a really good guy that chose to stay in Utah. In the end he didn't help us move the needle as far as playoff success. We likely would have the same results in each of our playoff runs had we signed anybody else.
Moving forward I think there is some mystery on what type of player he comes back as next year. I personally think his struggles this year were more mental than physical, but there is plenty of reason to think a player his age could be dropping off significantly physically. If he can get back to playing as well as he did for the majority of last year, then his contract is fine. If he has become the player he was towards the end of the year and in the playoffs, his contract is a big issue. Whatever the case, I think his time playing next to Donovan is likely over.
