Indeed. But with Manifest Destiny the fascists crawled back into our bed, and with the rise of the Robber Barons they were pulling our. . . .uhmmm. . . .strings again. By 1896 they had us going out as surrogate Imperialists. . . .and things have progressively gone their way ever since.
