Aaron Gordon..Why do you want him?

Kanter has that potential. Burks has that potential. It isn't like A. Gordon doesn't contribute either. The biggest problem with our offense this year was pace of play because of Trey (he admitted this today), and RJ being too old.

Next years lineup could be

Favors - can run
Kanter - can run
A. gordon - can run
Hayward - can run
Burke - has vowed to get faster so he can run

Bench:

Neto - can run
Burks - can run
Evabs - can run

Etc.

Vs a starting line of

Favors incentive will be to slow down for burke
Kanter - incentive will be to slow down for burke
Parker - can't run
Hayward - no one is running so he is frustrated and shooting poorly.
Burke - incentive will be to slow down for parker

We already have some excellent runners in this team, but we need more in the starting lineup, that's why my top 4 board is 1 wiggins, 2 Embiid, 3 A. Gordin (trade down and maximize value), 4 Exum
I want to see them run too, but I don't pass up Parker if he's there. I want the elite scorer.

I very much disagree with those who don't think if it matters whether Gordon can shoot and score.

True, defense wins championships but good offense puts you in a position to win that championship. We can't ignore half of the game.

This Jazz team didn't play any defense last year. In my opinion, that can be attributed to Corbin's bad scheme more than bad defensive players. Our offense? I'm not so sure it's the same way. We need a clear cut go to man. Hayward tries, and sucks at that. Trey has the mentality. But he can't be it.

We are in need of a Michael Jordan just as much as we are in need of a Scottie Pippen.

IMO, if we can find a go to offensive player, you take that over that nice glue guy who plays great defense.

I think the offense can be attributed to bad scheme as well. He used Hayward as point forward (point shooting guard?) much of the time when he had Burke who is a true point guard, and pretty good at it when given the chance. Defense is as much about effort as it is about scheme. A guy like Gordon will bring up the effort of everyone around him while guarding the best 2-4 on the other team. Now I agree that his offense is a huge question mark. Right now he is #4 on my board behind the big 3. Play him at SF and let Kanter spread the floor a little on offense.

I might be echoing some of the same sentiments, but I'll answer anyway.

He appears to have elite level athleticism. He appears to look like he can come in the NBA tomorrow and be at least a good defender, and perhaps once he gets the game down an all defensive team type guy. And as a 3 it looks like he can create tons of mismatches with his athleticism. Finally, it looks like he cares out there and wants to get better.

His shot worries the hell out of me though. His FT rate is just flat out unacceptable. Still I hope he can pull a Karl and work on that.

He's not my first pick past the top 3, but I wouldn't complain if the Jazz got him from 4-7. That being said I could be just drinking the pre draft hype koolaid now. I wouldn't be upset with any of Exum/Randle/Gordon/Smart at 4-7 (and I know all of them have massive detractors, so perhaps I'm just optimistic), but would prefer the Jazz to get into the top 3 and avoid that conversation. Right now Vonlah, Saric, or Anderson are the guys who I cringe about getting with the pain that was this season, but would at least try to be optimistic about them.

The key is Andrew Wiggins. Get the first pick in the draft and you get a guy who makes it look easy. He can score and has the elite athleticism to be a top level defender.

Outside of that, you take the best player on your board and either fit him in or build around him. I have Wiggins, Parker, Embiid and Randle rated above Aaron Gordon. I'd take him over Exum, Smart and Vonleh. Doesn't mean the Jazz feel the same. As long as they get one if those 8 players I'll be really happy.

I hope you aren't serious.

Yes, but how often did he do that? If it was easier for him, he would've done it more. His movement isn't fluid like Wiggins, A. Gordon, or even some of the guys we already have on our team. He has never played fast continuously.

If I am wrong, and we get him (jabari), I will be ecstatic and be the first to eat my words.

If we get him and he (and by extension we) run at a pace that reflects our other athletes, and if he can guard NBA SF's like Lebron and KD, then Jazzfanz has permission to run a neg train on me next offseason. Book it.

I used to like Drew Gordon's game BTW.
He is in Euroland now and one hell of an athlete.
Let's have a Gordons' get-together this summer in SLC .

Drew, Aaron, Eric and Gordon Hayward. Can we make a spelling exception and include Giricek? Wonder if Lightfoot would joins us for some music: "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" could be adapted with lyrics to fit the Utah Jazz' season.

Just realizing that I am going to miss seeing Gordon play here in Tucson. That kind of sucks. Would especially suck if he went to Boston or the Lakers.
