Affordable Care?

A few years ago, in the dead of night, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi strong-armed a bunch of stupid Senators and Congressmen to pass the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, without giving them time to read the nearly three thousand pages of text. Pelosi said that we have to pass it so we can find out what it is. Since then, thousands of bureaucrats have used their new power to write millions, yes millions of new regulations that are presumed to be authorized under the Obamacare open ended powers granted to them.

Nobody knows what Obamacare is, yet.

And we have been told by our Supreme Masters, the Supreme Court that imagines they have all the power in the universe because they are, in fact Supreme, that the Senators and Congressman who passed the law claiming it was not a new tax, were acting within their powers because they were just lying, and that it is "Constitutional" because, in fact, it is a tax.

So this thread will deal with it in terms of whether it is actually "Affordable" or actually "care" of some kind, or whether it is George Orwell gone amok.

Does anyone know what Obamacare is, yet?

I do not know the ins and outs. No one does.

However there are somethings int he bill I do like. Like no preexisting conditions. I also like that I can cover my kids till they are 26 or something like that. In my opinion if I am willing to pay the premium I should be able to add whoever I want.

Get over it already. You lost. Years from now when Obamacare is accepted as the law of the land without giving second thought, and universally seen as vital to the social and economic fabric of our country as, say, medicare and social security, you and your ilk will be seen in hindsight as the obstacles to social progress that you are. So, join your social conservative brethren as yet again, for the umpteenth time and for all other social and progressive reforms, you find yourself on the wrong side of history.

Oh gee, not the neg rep. Please no. Dear me. How can I go on???

Like I give a crap. Neg rep away. I stand 100% by what I say. Social conservatives like Babe are consistently on the wrong side of history and social progress.

This is a hard fail. Why you ask? Well, I didn't neg rep you, I pos repped you. But nothing you have posted in this thread has anything to do with facts or reality so why start now, right?

And I was supposed to infer that you positive repped me from the content of your post?

Not anything to do with reality?

Ok, I’m curious, please tell me, just to take a few examples, which of the following progressive social/economic reforms social conservatives, as a group, supported:

13th Amendment
17th Amendment
19th Amendment
Civil Rights Act
Social Security Act
Voting Rights Act
Anti-child labor laws
Food labeling laws
Anti-trust laws
Americans with Disabilities Act
Fair Work Regulations
Parental leave laws
Anti-discrimination laws

There’s plenty more examples.

Social conservatives have fought every single progressive social/economic reform since the dawn of time. Babe is just one more in an endless stream of people fighting the march of progress and history.

That right there is the problem. You are not supposed to infer or assume anything. You are actually supposed to find out what the hell you are talking about before you do reply.

Whether or not Obamacare is "universally seen as vital to the social and economic fabric of our country" remains to be seen. Being on the wrong side of history is not necessarily a bad thing. Case in point, the Social Security Act that you tout as a vital program. I would much rather keep my money and do what I want with it instead of loaning it to the government to fart around with until I retire.

I got a nice refund from my insurance company because they spent too much on expenses other than medical care. I can't remember off the top of my head how much it was, but it was over $200.

So if insurance companies are required to spend a certain amount of the premiums they collect on actual medical care, either medical care will improve, premiums will go down, or both.

Third Party payers are generally a bad idea. Even Insurance Companies generally provide less care for the buck than a paying patient. A patient who has his own health and his own wallet on the line has a chance to do a little personal decision making, and if he asks relevant questions and can afford the time to study the issues, he will be a more efficient consumer. If anyone doesn't want to do that, I might just infer Darwin was right to begin with.

So here's a case in point. Lady has cancer, and a very good doctor recommends doing a specific new type of imaging. It is explained well, and the health care professional wife and former medical researcher husband can readily see it is very much better than the alternatives.

The insurance company is taking the decision into its own control, since they have the money to disburse. . . . . after collecting insurance premiums for decades with no payouts at all. . . . but even though this new scan is actually cheaper, they decide they can't permit it because they just don't know much about it yet.

months later, after multiple scans with other technologies, repeated because of doubtful interpretations of inferior types of imaging, and spending about five times the money, it was only during surgery that biopsies revealed the actual fact that the scan first proposed would have indicated. . . .

Fact is, Obamacare takes personal control of peoples own health away from them, even more than insurance companies have done, in huge swaths. . . . and there are no intrinsic limits to what can be instigated by bureaucratic decree downstream. It is the end of representative government in the most personal aspect of our lives.

The things we have been told are generally untrue, and our support of it is universally uninformed.

We have bought a pig in a poke. . . .
