What's new

Alec has taken over as our alpha dog.

Burks is playing the best ball on the team right now and it's not close. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or an indictment of the rest of the team.

Burks always brings energy when he is on the court. You can't say that for Hayward. Some times you don't now Hayward is on the court until he commits another turn over. Let's face it, Alec Burks is the only guy on the team who can consistently create a good shot. Just think what Alec could do if he had a good coach who actually ran plays for him.

So I see Alec is the new, He is the best eva!!! guy on the forums...ok, I will let it ride for a while until the bandwagoners turn on him...as they always do...

You realize that this is the first time he has had these kind of opportunities right?

Burks has scored at least 23 points three games in a row.

How many times did he play 30 minutes? Zero.

Dala and all the others who said it doesnt matter if burks starts or not should read this.

Starting effects minutes plain and simple

Can you imagine trey, gordon, or derrick starting and scoring 20 + efficiently and playing less than 30 minutes?...... me either

He got 29 tonight so it's a little silly to worry about it.

Wrong.

With the way he played, why should he have not received 35 minutes?
He was playing better than everyone else

So I don't like his defense.

This is fair but he tries hard on defense unlike melo, harden, curry, etc.

A better defensive coach and defensive system would probably help.

The effort is there

nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say, but nothing comes out when they move their lips just a bunch of jibberish and mother ****ers act like they forgot about trey

Fixed

This

People hate on burks for some reason that I just cant understand. He gets a bad rap for being a chucker ball hog and its totally not true. He is a better shooter than he gets credit for too.
His biggest problem is guarding big physical players that post him up, but even that deficiency can be fixed somewhat by putting him on shooters and smaller quicker players.

Also he is a pretty good rebounder, with a good attitude and tons of confidence
I really don't see whats not to like about him. He is quiet, never bitches (even though he has had lots of reason to) works hard in the off season improving his game, has never had an injury, and seems like a great guy to have on your team.
Umm, in the past it has been true. It was true the first month of the year this year. Why do you think he's been so inefficient in years past. I don't mind him taking difficult shots driving, because he is a good finisher, and gets him to the ft line.
If Alec had the usage rate of Hayward he puts up 22 ppg 6 reb and 4 asst. you heard it here and he will be an all star one day.
agree. Plus, if he works he has more room to get even better
alec burks is thuggin out there.

HARD HITTA MONEY GANG
Are you sure you have enough street cred to be saying this:)
So I want to know.....

... is Alec good enough to be a #1 option on a good team?
... If Hayward struggles like this with burk as the alpha, would he be any different with Jabbari or any other alpha?
... If the jazz got a franchise player in the draft, could burks play second? Better than Hayward?
Yes, but to do so, he needs to improve his midrange game and make it a weapon like Wade has. He can't just rely on his drive game alone.
So I don't like his defense. It's Melo'esque. aka non existent.
He takes difficult shots often. While they go in right now, I still wanna see consistency with the ability to overcome off nights before I jump on the Burks bandwagon. He hasn't shown that as of yet. Plus some efficiency would be nice. But see yourself.

The differences in evaluation of bbalref and NBA.com I explain by both having a different interpretation of possessions(NBA.com seems to count a play that occurs after an offensive board as a seperate possession while bballref says: They kept the possession alive via O-Reb.
You can see a 31.1% usage rate in February. That's superstar touches. His TOs have gone up since getting more opportunities.
Look at the huge discrepancy in the off rtg column between wins and losses. 10.6
You know what that means? Bill Simmons would call him a "heat-check-guy". And that's why he's coming off the bench. Because he doesn't have consistency and with this Jazz lineup apparently an off night of him hurts his team.

Jazz are running proper plays for his tendencies.
Just want to point out that he's been the most efficient player for at least the last month.
Needs to work on his drive and dishing game if he ever wants to surpass being a scorer. Sometimes he isn't aware of how many people are collapsing on him and he tries a shot that is unnecessarily difficult when he could just kick it out.

I would agree with this. Like I said above, he has lots of room to grow, but I can now see him, possibly being an Allstar one day. I've seen growth in his game as this year has unfolded, and if he continues to work on his midrange game, and his ability to make his teamates better, he'll get there.

As this year has gone on, I've jumped on the Burks bandwagon. Props to Fishy for being on it from day one. Now that I've seen some improvement from him, I'm confident he can improve in playmaking and his midrange game.

So sometimes he doesnt make the right pass?
Ok.
As if harden and wade never take tough shots and always rack up the assists.

So many times i see alec make the right pass only to watch his teammate miss the easy shot he created for them..... i think burks taking the tough shot is quite often the better option.
Plus those tough shots often lead to offensive rebound putbacks

With all that said, I still don't mind him coming off the bench for now with the Jazz roster as it is. Just need to bring him in a bit earlier in the 1st and 3rd (6-7 minute mark), which would allow him to get a 2 minute rest later on and still play 32+ minutes per game.

This would be great but since it rarely happens, even when he is playing great, he should start so that he can actually get those 32 minutrs on a nightly basis
