90% of Americans are doing slightly better than subsisting or living in abject poverty? Where are you getting your information? Certainly not from experiencing America.

I'm talking 50 years from now, poverty in a society is relative, poverty in america is different to say South Sudan. For instance not having access to the internet in the US would be considered a marker of poverty, where as for large numbers of the worlds population food security is a bigger issue, once that problem is solved and the poor can begin to survive their poverty other material factors become more important. But when you think about it, what percentage of your population is living pay cheque to pay cheque? I would guess that millions of Americans are not far away from being homeless if they get sick or lose their job, most developed economies have significantly better safety nets for people.

WTF. You throw out stats that are a million miles off and when you get called on it you say you were looking far into the future but just not mentioning that minor detail?

I studied systems theory and economics, 50 years is not that far off, read some Immanuel Wallerstien.

It's way off when you post as if you're talking about the present and then just randomly change your argument to a different time frame when you get called out. Not only that, you're probably way wrong in your 50 year prediction.

Yeah it will probably be sooner. Think what you want dude, ideas are an open paradigm, i probably should have better tighter with my language but it was 4am and i was talking in generalities and concepts, also its a web forum and not an academic argument. I'm right about things more than I'm wrong. If you think things are great in America good luck to you, I'm pretty sure they are worse now for a lot more people than ever. That's why your political system is fracturing (ours too) if you think Trump being elected and Bernie Sanders almost being the Democratic nominee for President is business as usual you should probably reexamine your reasoning.

This talking point is nowhere near how US politics works. Demographics butter their bread. Swing states are all that really matters, down to specific districts even. Well off old white people in Florida wanting more SS safety, corn belt farm subsidies... The people's vote still matters even if a few companies get their palms greased a little. However, you will find the vast majority of US Federal spending has little to nothing to do with campaign finance.

If you're referring to the economic mobility aspect of social mobility then you are repeating another myth if you are talking about USA. There are plenty of studies that debunked this long ago.
