All-Time Major League Baseball Draft

I dunno, I thought our band draft was plenty fun. I also don't trust any panel of experts we could assemble on Jazzfanz. It's interesting to me to see how people make their selections and put together a team.

That's true. Just trying to change things up.

I don't like doing this. What if it's a player like Mays who was great for a long time? Do we take his 1957-1961 and then someone else takes 1962-1966?
No. Each player can only be selected once, but the person chooses what years they consider that particular player's prime to be. It's just a suggestion, I'll probably play either way.

Not doing the years thing. Just draft the player. It goes without saying that the player you're drafting was largely selected not only on his body of work but also how great he was at his peak. Not to mention, some ******* will draft Cecil Fielder and point out spectacular he was during a two or three year stretch.

My suggestion solves this problem by requiring a 4- or 5-year prime. Like I said, either way is fine.

It doesn't solve anything. And a player's longevity matters. Otherwise, Ralph Kiner would be going number one overall. Now shut it.

Does era take into account anything? Would Babe Ruth be able to handle Randy Johnson simply because he never had to face a guy like him? Do dead ball pitchers lose value? Do steroid era hitters lose value?

No one has any definitive answer on this so let's leave it up to the drafter. He or she can defend their picks.
