Awful matchup this early. Two really good teams.

Question: are we doing best Sabonis NBA years, or can we take his prime euro years?

I really like the Webber/Shaq combo, but I'm meh on the rest. Wade is obviously great, but him, Payton and Shaq all clog the lane. Not sure how well they play together. Not a huge fan of OL's bench either, outside of Gasol.

On the other hand, idk who Nash defends. He leads to easy baskets for Shaq/Webber. Really great mat chips though, Nash/Payton, Kobe/Wade, Nique/Worthy, Malone/Webber, Sabonis/Shaq...this one is really really close.

I gotta give it to OL, but these guys shouldn't have been playing eachother this early. Two of the best teams for sure.
Agree with all of it. Pretty much exactly my thoughts.

As for your sabonis question... The way I understand it is that you take the very best (peak) of each player. So I just pictured sabonis at his best in my mind from all I have heard and seen of him.

That's why one loves claim that shaq/webber >> sabonis Malone is ridiculous to me.
I have shaq and webber being the tiniest bit better than malone and sabonis. So so close. Tbh without my bias for shaq (I probably have him higher on my overall rankings than most) they are probably about even since Malone is obviously better than webber.

It's just tough with a guy like sabonis. I mean he has great size, can shoot, great passer, even has handles and I hear people say that when he was at his best he was better than Jordan..... But I have to take that with a grain of salt. When I saw him play he was good, great even but not on the level of Jordan (or shaq for that matter). But I can't totally disregard the things I have heard people say about his euros years either.

Sabonis was really freaking good. Look what he was doing in his 30's when he came here. Now just picture him in his prime. Incredible player, and I think underrated by the average fan here.

I barely pay attention to the all-time draft thingys, but every year I see the Sabonis debate. Maybe we should start a thread just for him.

ONE LOVE's starters: no space
ONE LOVE's bench: lots of space

I think your lineup could use some tweaking.

Came here to see who voted and the "new" posters are One Love alts or not but for "some" reason the poll is anonymous!!

Should have taken Wilt with that Malone pick. Also should have finished your starters before taking Pete. Although I really like Pistol as a player. Really great talent, I would start him over Nash. Thats just my opinion though.

This is a close one to me though. I gave the edge to One Love but I could be persuaded either way on this match up.

I knew that matching up Shaq in the first round would be rough on my team. Sabonis is a great big man as a starter, but hard to influence voters to pick him over Shaq.

Malone would own Webber all day, everyday. And Malone would have been able to help defend against Shaq inside while Sabonis stepped out more like a stretch 5. If prime Sabonis couldn't match up with prime Shaq (he could) I know that prime Malone would hold his own and prime Sabonis would still eat Webber's lunch and kiss his girlfriend.

And while James Worthy was a boss and clutch as hell, I think Dominique Wilkins is highly underrated in this thing. A lot of his stats are better than Worthy's. Dominique had a higher usage rate, higher points per game (24.8 vs 17.6), higher 3 point percentage (.319 vs .281), more than twice as many free throw attempts and makes at a higher percentage (7,438/6,031/.811 vs 3,184/2,447/.769), more offensive, defensive and total rebounds per game (2.7/3.9/6.7 vs 1.4/3.4/5.1), and nearly identical numbers of assists, steals and blocks per game (2.5/1.3/0.6 vs 3.0/1.1/0.7).

Every year I get dinged for my spacing issues, but nobody in his starting lineup shoots well from outside. Surprised that wasn't a bigger issue. Almost all of my starting guys are better shooters vs. their counterparts. Shaq inside kills me, but (outside of that matchup) offensively, my team is better across the board. And his top defenders (Shaq and Payton) don't do a thing to slow down all three of my top weapons in Malone, Kobe and Dominique.

This was a bad matchup for my team right out of the gate. Was hoping it would be closer so I'd at least get a 2nd round game, but not sure that's going to happen. One Love has a great team. Should have ended up facing him later on in this thing. Props to him.

This was tough me for me, Shaq is what put OL over the top for me.
That's what I think it was for most of the people who voted for One Love. . . except for Funk of course. Was really hoping that the Mailman would offset some of that for me. Prime Malone I've Webber is so much of a disparity over Prime Shaq vs. Prime Sabonis. At least in my mind.

RIP Nate Thurmond.
From ProBasketball Talk : Kurt Heilin

Nate Thurmond — a Hall of Famer, one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players ever list, and a member of the Warriors organization for more than four decades on and off the court — has passed away.

The Warriors made the announcement Saturday. Thurmond had been battling leukemia according to the team.

“Nate was one of the greatest centers to ever play the game and I was privileged to call him a teammate and dear friend,”Rick Barry, former Warriors player and Hall of Famer said in a statement. “He battled his illness until the very end, like a true Warrior. His legacy is one of passion, fierce competitiveness, a love of basketball and selfless devotion to others. My heartfelt prayers go out to his family, friends and fans.”

“This is an extremely difficult day for me,” said Jerry West, Hall of Famer and Warriors Executive Board Member, via statement. “We have lost an incredible person and someone whom I admired as much as any player I ever went to battle against on any level. Nate Thurmond was, without a doubt, one of the fiercest competitors that I played against during my entire career. He played with unbelievable intensity and was simply a man among boys on most nights, especially on the defensive end. On the other hand, off the court, Nate was about as caring and loving as they come, extremely kind and gentle. He was the total package as an athlete and as a man and someone we should all aspire to emulate. I’ll miss him dearly.”

Thurmond had epic battles with Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabar and other greats from a golden age of big men in the NBA. Thurmond averaged 15 points and 15 rebounds a game over the course of his career — he peaked at 20.5 points and 22 rebounds a game during the 1967-68 campaign — that included seven All-Star games, five-times All-Defensive Teams, and even becoming one of five players ever to post a quadruple-double in a game.

“We’ve lost one of the most iconic figures in the history of not only our organization, but the NBA in general, with the passing of Nate Thurmond,”Joe Lacob, Warriors owner, said in a statement released by the team. “Nate represented this franchise with class, dignity and humility as both a player and community relations ambassador for over 40 years. Without a doubt, he is one of the most beloved figures to ever wear a Warriors uniform and both a Hall of Fame player and Hall of Fame person, hence his #42 jersey hanging from the rafters at Oracle Arena. On behalf of the entire Warriors organization, our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family, including his wife, Marci. We’ll miss his presence in his customary seats at our games next season, but his legacy will live forever.”

First ever Quadruple Double in NBA history. Great player. Great person. He was one of my homer picks this year. I've drafted him all three years that I've done this.
