Am I racist?

To get you dick heads back on topic here is what happened last night.

I start feeling a tinge of guilt because you guys called me a racist. So I call the mexican guy back and tell him he can come get the washer and dryer at 6. He tells me, in somewhat broken english but not too bad, that he has to drive down from Ogden, I live in Utah County, so he'll be there around 7.

I say " The ad says $400 and I've had a lot of interest so I will only take $400."

"Ok, that fine. Do you take check?"

"No, cash only."

"Ok, I bring cash."

So he shows up with some other guy, which is great because I don't want to move that **** down the stairs. I show him the items, he looks them over and nods that they are good. Then him and his buddy start trying to take them.

I go, "Hey hey hey, do you have the cash before you take these?"

"Oh yes, here you go."

Hands me a HUGE wad of 20's, 10's, 5's and 1's ..... I immediately think " you mother ****er, I know this game." He's hoping I wont count it.

"Hold on man, let me see how much this is." I start unfolding, unwrapping, untangling and the grand total comes to .............. $287!

"This is only $287 we agreed on $400, right?"

"400? You say $300 on the phone."

"Nope, I didn't. I was very careful and specific, I said $400 and the ad says $400. Even if we agreed on $300 this is still not $300."

Then his English starts to fade. Spanish Spanish Spanish .. English word, Spanish Spanish Spanish English word.

"Listen guy, I had a lot of offers on this and since you were the first I thought I'd be decent and let you have it. I told you $400 and we agreed. I'm not letting you take it for less than $400."

Then his English comes back. Weird huh? "I drive all the way from Ogden. That 1 hour away!"

"I do not give a ****. Not my problem. Pay me the right amount or please leave."

"I go see if I have more at ATM."

Then he leaves and doesn't come back.

So yeah, next time I'm saying first person with the cash at my door gets the item. Still annoying as hell, I knew it would happen, and it did.

Yep, that's why I like my approach. I don't have to judge the person I'm selling to. They have the cash in hand they get the item. They could be a space alien, idgaf.

Could be awkward as fu if I had something truly awesome and there was like a mad rush to my door. And I then had to make them go through a series of competitions to see who would be the purchaser. Maybe someday.

I'm pretty straight up with people, I tell them when I've had other offers. Usually they wait and see if the other person shows up.

I've just had very bad experiences holding things for people, turning away other buyers. I had Jazz season tickets one year and tried to sell half or more of the tickets. Learned a lot about selling stuff on KSL at the time. I also sold all of my guns a few years ago, interesting folks for sure.

Sorry, never saw that question. He originally called and left a VM. And then reading his texts. Spanglish is a pretty easy thing to catch onto.

still dont get how u knew he was mexican and other person was white, tbh.
maybe u mean hispanic? no worries, its a common mixup amongst racialists such as yoself.

That is incredibly vague and totally incapable of describing anything. This is "hard science," as you put it. Have to be more specific.

A population is defined, in biology, as a group of individuals of the same species living in close-enough proximity that any member of the group can potentially mate with any other member. In modern human terms, a "population" is essentially the entire world.

"Distinct in some way" describes every single human in existence, so every human is his/her own race? And by "distinct," do you only mean phenotype? Or is the entire genotype? As Dalamon mentioned, the phenotype (the part of the genome that determines physical characteristics that one can "see") makes up a small percentage of the actual genetic code.

There isn't enough genetic diversity comparatively across humans of today to be able to classify into race. The diversity is spread too generally through the entire human population. Trends in a population isn't enough to classify into race. And if you specify even further to where trends become actualities, which is nearly impossible now because of the world wide nature of modern humans breeding pool, then you'd have millions of "races," which at that point would be useless anyway.

I'm assuming he originated in Mexico, making him a mexican. Is Mexican offensive?

Making such an assumption isn't a good idea. For all you know the person could have been born in the US and never been to Mexico at all.
 
Is it still racism if you use it as positive statement about someone?


Such as....

Black people are damn good at sports.
Mexicans are really good workers
Asians make the best food

Thats kind of like a Japanese or Korean being deeply offended if they are called Chinese or Vietnamese. If you get offended by that punch yourself in the dick or boob.
