What's new

Ante Tomic

It just talks about how other teams are interested in Tomic's rights, and that Utah is considering trading him "if it makes the team better". Also it mentions something about a clause that would let Tomic come to the NBA. Mentions the Wolves as most interested team.

I have a legit question for anyone who knows more than me (which is next to nothing) about international play. Whenever I look at these Euro's stats, they don't impress. I think they play more team ball with less isolations and the stars get less PT than say a star in the NBA as far as minutes per game. But I can never help but feel underwhelmed when looking at any of the prospective big's rebounding and blocked shots numbers. Is there a reason? Is there no shot clock or one greater than 24 seconds, and thus less possessions per game? Are the numbers simply a reflection of the style of play?

I am not an expert but my first guess is this is because in NBA there are approx. 80 field goal attempts per game while in Europe it's around 56. So you can easily multiply european stats by 1.45 with minimal error.
This will make Tomic's correlated stats look like 30pts, 9.5 reb and 3 blocks per 40 mins in 2009-10 season
Which makes his projected NBA starter stats look like 22 pts, 7.1 reb and 2 blocks per game assuming he plays 30 mins.

The first thing to tell you that I am Spanish and live in Madrid.
I am fan of the Jazz from 1989 after the All Star of Houston and read this forum always but almost I do not write, because my English level is too low ( sorry :( )
With regard to Tomic I will try to give my opinion, asking pardon if something don´t understand correctly
I believe that just now for our team the important thing is that He growing very much in his game and starting being clearly one of 4 or 5 players more importants and quoted for nba that exists in Europe
Probably it is not that we need but it just now is not the important thing, too much young and player basically offensive, But He is a great value for us
Tomic after play in his country comes a few months ago to Real Madrid
Real Madrid is the club with more titles and more power and with more money of the world sport (for his soccer team certainly, Cristiano Ronaldo's signing only they were 96 million dollars, without counting his salary for example...)
In basketball Real Madrid has spent this year approximately 40 million Euros, Almost as an Nba team (Olympiakos with Linas Kleiza, Josh Childress, Teodosic, Papaloukas, Schorchianitis probably approximately 50 millions )
Tomic has been since He comes to Real Madrid the first offensive reference (his trainer Ettore Messina is the best of Europe probably and it will improve very much with him) even with his problems with fouls
His explosion like player I come in the Euroleague Quarterfinals versus F.C. Barcelona.
Against the best team in Europe this year ( Barcelona win the title massacring Olympiacos in an great exhibition of Ricky Rubio, Fran Vazquez and Juan Carlos Navarro ) and with all pressure on him Ante Tomic lead the team and look very well
His statistics and especially the sensations were spectaculars in this playoffs, since then it is normal that all the scouts in nba you put his eyes in Ante Tomic... Because out of Ricky Rubio (another level of player) Ante is probably the player's major project of Europe (for nba)
Jan Vesely ( young Czech, Kirilenko type of player ) probably will be top ten in 2011 draft but Ante is a major project in my opinion

In this moment R.M. and Tomic has playing the semi-finals of the Spanish league ( the best in Europe ) against Cajalaboral (also one team of Elite 8 of Europe this year ) in nice and close battle opposite to Tiago Splitter probably the Europe's best center of last 3 years ( It is said that Spurs next year... Tiago is more important and more star for Brasil that Varejao o Nene Hilario, of course Fiba basketball it´s different... )

A greeting and I´m sorry that my english's level is not better :rolleyes:

Thanks for the insight, always good to get some local info on overseas prospects. Don't worry about your English, your post was perfectly understandable :)
