You know though, as much as people talk about big markets vs. small markets, the truth is that there are only two "big markets" that attract players the best: New York and LA, with an honorable mention going to Chicago.

The following markets are not small, but they don't often win the battle to attract blue-chip FAs: Atlanta, San Francisco Bay Area, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Boston, etc.

I bet if Miami's Big Three had the option to team up in NYC instead of Miami they would have.

Yet back in the days of Stockalone, the Jazz couldn't seem to attract that third major player to put them over the top.

....the game has changed and so have the type of guys playing the game. Most are hip hoppers who like urban cities/environments where the type of night life they crave is in abundance. Strip clubs, etc. Utah offers some of that but not much.

It was a cash grab. The owners got more money, the players less, and the fans got nothing. System is largely the same.
Yeah, I'd rather miss the season than keep things the same. I'm not getting a percentage of BRI.

My sig says it all. I was for the owners but the lockout was a waste of time. They fixed nothing. If they were going to settle for this **** they could have avoided the whole thing and just bent over to begin with. I get that they got more money. But that is really all they got out of it. They did not make the small market teams more stable and they did virtually nothing to address competitive balance. No hard cap, No franchise tag, No elimination of guaranteed contracts and far less restrictions on Luxury tax payers than they needed.

I'm glad the season is starting. But it would have been nice to see the league improve. And I don't feel that it did.

Wouldn't have an NBA until 2014 or ever if the owners demanded non-guaranteed contracts.

Lots of my opinions already said,

And no, the lockout didn't 'work' and by that I mean the system hasn't been replaced, it's just been tuned up.

Had a thought today, wouldn't it be nice if there were a limit to the number of players on a team from one agent? Or instead, if an agent could only have a limited amount of financial interest in one team. That way there wouldn't be teams that agents put all of their super stars in. I know, a pipe dream, but I really think the devil in the shadows is the agents.

If the Owners had tried for a hard cap and all of that, there is a very real chance that the NBA would cease to exist. I'm afraid that we are stuck with a squishy system as long as it is the NBA. (as opposed to some other recreated league)

Dumb deal. For the owners to lock out and then sign what they did makes no sense. I would have much rather cancelled the season to get a deal that levels the playing field much more dramatically. And using San Antonio as the reason it doesn't matter is old and not thoughtful. Just like baseball, you have to look at small market and underfunded teams collectively versus those that have a lot more coin to spend. That makes it pretty clear in terms of contenders and pretenders. Small market teams will still break through but we are headed to a league with 6-8 super teams. If that happens, the Millers are crazy not to sell the team.
