What's new

Anyone know when Alec Burks is returning to the line up?

What have you been reading? The Jazz make millions for the Miillers. Add to that appreciation when they do sell, not to mention the tie- in to their other businesses. Sure, they'd like to see the team win a title. That would be stupid to say otherwise. Larry H's goal - which he stated numerous times - was to have the team always operate in the black. There has been NOTHING to show that philosophy has changed. In fact, outside of the couple of seasons it took to unwind the Boozer and AK salaries, the Jazz have gotten progressively cheaper.

Have ticket prices or concessions or merchandise gone down? Not one bit, despite payroll plummeting to 28th. Millers are making money hand over fist and laughing all the way to the bank. But just bend over and smile while being asked to take it from a GM who knows how to spew BS like the best politicians out there.

"Not skipping steps" is short for don't run so fast to the bank that you trip and spill cash out of the money bags.

Best thing that could happen to this team is to sell to a group of Utah investors who are passionate about basketball. Maybe that happens when Gail passes away.

On the Millers money thing... First off there is a lot of ego and pride in being that well recognized don't think they don't like that part as well. I have a mega rich friend that I hang out with and the rich guys eat all this up. The are all one-upers.

The money they make is good on the Jazz but absolutely fuels their other businesses. Anytime people report income in the public through Forbes or CBA agreements just know that it will be low balled and filled with non-cash expenses such as depreciation. I knew many businesses that had great cash flow and showed minimal profits.

I think the Millers do a lot for the community and they would like to have a championship... so long as that championship is value priced. If you told them they operate at a 10-20 M loss for a chance at a championship then maybe they'd fund it for a year or two. I also think the new CBA will make it harder for small markets to compete... it is clear to me that this season bakking cakkk was a front for saving dat green.

Anyway.... hope alec is back soon.

Why is that? Seems like most of the changes they made (for example stiffer luxury tax penalties and more revenue sharing) were designed to do the opposite.

The only remaining thing that in my opinion makes it really hard for small markets is having max salaries. That means that if you don't have one of the top 5 players in the league you are paying the #6 - #30 (or so) players in the league as if they WERE top 5 players in the league. And that combined wit the cap & luxury tax really makes it tough on anyone who doesn't have one of the top 5 players.

At first I balked at removing the player maximum salary, but now I want the player maximums to be eliminated. I see it as the only way the jazz will be able to compete. In this scenario every team gets a regulated amount to spend (salary Cap), a team can spend it all on a super star, and role players or a team can pay respectable amounts to a few quality players that compete as a team.

A hard cap like that would certainly help the small market teams immensely. But even with a soft cap, removing max salary limits would help a whole lot.

Just the sheer volume of the payroll increases and I believe there is a timing difference between when bigger revenue trickles in and when we have to cut checks. I think the larger cap just exaggerates the current issues for small markets. Much of the new revenue is shared through tv deals and such but our payroll goes up by 50-75% and I don't think our revenues will follow in proportion. Big markets get the benefit of great local tv deals and have less price pressure on tickets and such.

Basically BRI is not equally distributed but the cap is the same for every team... Making that cap even higher hurts those that are getting less revenue. Basically I think the gap will increase even more. Also factor in that contenders and market destinations get the vets on cheap deals and market discounts on players like David west Joe Johnson and other types I can't recall right now.

I also think the uncertainty and large dollar amounts scare owners who aren't mega billionaires

Is Alec Burks dead?

He's close... Favs was close for a month. Meanwhile please enjoy the poop layer cakkk that is Johnson and ingles.
