Anyone know why Burks was a DNP?

No he should not care about the kids feelings in this. He needs to be ready to play to get minutes. They don't feel he is.

While Bell is getting far more minutes than he should. Your reason for giving Burks minutes is laughable. Burks should get minutes because he earns them and takes them from Bell. This is kind of the wrong year to be a young mid round pick. He did not have much time in camp and pre-season to show he deserves those minutes. His feeling should have nothing to do with his playing time.

I know you probably had shut the game off by then (if you watched it at all); but Burks scored 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 2 steals in 10 minutes against Denver Wednesday night. He also played 6 minutes in The Laker game as well.

That is THE reason he should have at least had gotten a shot to play. The fact that it was his first ever home opener is an ancillary reason; but it is a reason nonetheless. If you have a basic understanding about managing people; you would realize these things.

Exactly. And that's why a full DNP is so unhelpful; it is a missed opportunity to establish a baseline of performance for both the player and the coach's perspective on the player. It's a missed opportunity for valuable experience (and diversity of experience), even if it's for a few minutes at a time.

Taking a few minutes from Raja Bell (or Watson, who was having trouble with the 6'4" Holliday and wasn't running the offense particularly well) are places where Burks could've gotten some burn.

As for the previous games, there was plenty more opportunity because they evolved into blowouts--and Bell still averaged >20 MPG.

The impact of benching Harris for a few minutes vs. Philly and seeing him return with improeved performance is precisely the kind of coaching that can be imposed upon Bell, Jefferson, and others--especially now that Kanter and Howard appear to be a viable alternative to the starting lineups overall. Burks could be an even better alternative than Howard if he got some court time.

Having a young Burks, who looks lost unless he's dominating the ball (so far), in there mucking things up will only slow the teams gelling process.

I was watching. It was nice. But it was also in a game that was already over. In fact all of his stats have come in games that were over at the time.

His feeling should have less than no impact to his playing time right now. It's not an ancillary reason. It's no reason at all. I own a successful company and manage people (both employees and customers) every day. You do not give resposibility to sombody you don't feel is ready for it. It creates more problems than it is worth. The coaches obviously don't feel he is ready.

As to whether he has earned the time or not, that is a different argument. One I would be inclined to agree with you on. I feel he should be playing over Bell. But his feelings have nothing to do with it. But that Bell is terrible and Burks can't be much worse.

Yeah, except for those 2 steals on defense and 6 for 9 on offense--on a very low sample size of a total of 15 minutes, btw. Or, if you were referring to the Laker game alone, 6 minutes is not enough time to really write a player off.
