I used to work graveyard and it really ****ed me up.

Ya I did too. It sucked but wasn't too bad. Plus my shift is a good one for a graveyard. 4 10 hour shifts and the whole weekend off.
Hoping I will be able to move to day shift after about a year since I will have more seniority than everyone but one person in the department.
6 dollars raise is too much money for me to pass up.

But in a year, if you move to day, are they going to pay you the same higher rate?

I would lose 75 cents (shift differential)
That would still be 5.5 dollars more per hour than I currently make though.

One other factor.

Every year I get a raise. The raise is based on a percentage of my current pay. So my raises each year would be bigger if I get this new job.
Which means that right now my new position would pay me 6 dollars more per hour. But that amount more will increase each year due to the larger raise meaning the discrepancy between the two positions will be even larger as time goes on.

Awesome. That would be around 11K more a year. Plus more if OT rates are similarly larger.

Yes on the overtime. Plus holiday pay, bonus, and pto would all be at the higher rate.

I was always just ballparking and rounding when talking about the 6 dollar raise. It isn't exactly 6 dollars.
