What's new

Apparently Danny Ange didn’t know he was helping the Lakers get Luka Dončić

Of course it's ethical. The Jazz got 2 seconds for 55k and taking on a player they reportedly have had past interest in. The Lakers/Mavs dont owe them any kind of information about what else was going on. You want in or not?
Your probably right but I hate the lakers, so to play devils advocate, if the lakers didn’t say something because they thought DA wouldn’t have helped isn’t that unethical?

Didn't the Dallas GM said some stupid **** like credit to Pelinka for keeping a secret? Yeah no ****. You would have like 10+ plus teams jump in and outbid the Lakers to hijack the deal if Pelinka didn't keep his mouth shut. What an idiot.

They don’t need to disclose anything about the whole deal. Just like I wouldn’t want Ainge to disclose extra details if/when he goes big game hunting. You go get your guy - period. Jazz are in asset acquisition mode, and just happened to be in on the part of the deal that ate up cap space and brought in a young prospect they like. If you don’t want to help the Lakers (or T-Wolves) then stop taking their effing calls.

Is this trade two small steps forward and one giant leap back? Ergo, is the amount the ‘27 Lakers pick devaluation smaller or larger than the added value of JHS and two second round picks that may not be on our roster next year or whose value our runway is too time limited to appropriately squeeze?

It depends on Luka's calorie intake between now and then.

Maybe ultimately. But the deal 100% was happening with or without the Jazz. It's not like JHS getting dumped to a team was going to hold it up.

Not sure that it is. Maybe we'll find out.

But I think the hope for a great pick from the Lakers in 2027 was always misplaced. Even if they had stayed the course, AD would be just 33 then and very possibly still a top-10 player. No guarantees that Lebron is gone/washed. There's almost always room for under-the-radar roster moves to pay big dividends.

Or they might have used AD & Lebron to somewhat retool on the fly (even if not a Doncic-type return).

I think the better bet was that they'd be middle of the pack in 2027. So we've probably taken a step back, but thinking of it as a giant leap depends on the assumption of Laker collapse (which was always somewhat unrealistic, I think).

Would DA have done this himself? That's the big question
Not for the package that Dallas received. He'd ask for 10 picks just for starter. Absolute criminal for Dallas not to received at least one of Reaves/Knecht/DFS and all of Lakers remaining FRPs

Dont think DFS could be included since he was recently traded, but yeah to the others.

Trade was happening anyway.

Yup, Pistons just took KJ Martin and got two seconds. It probably amounts to who GMs like to do deals with and have prior conversations with. Ainge is just mad Luka went without a bidding war, not that he was part of it. I'm sure he still does that deal even if he knew (though he may have tried to intervene with a counter offer to Luka)

There is nothing remotely unethical about it - and smart move on the Lakers part - but I imagine Ainge would have made it much more difficult if he had known.
