It’s hard to get mad at the players and coach at this point when the FO is to blame. They saw the roster’s shortcomings against the Clippers, right? Why didn’t they address the need for perimeter defense?
You’re not wrong. Then we shouldn’t be getting mad at Royce, Rudy, Spida, etc. it’s the FO’s incompetence that’s holding this team back. Why aren’t they addressing team needs? The answer is, we only take three types of players on the roster: (1) old, slow 3s and 4s; (2) rim-protecting bigs; and (3) undersized exploitable guards. Herb didn’t fit any of those categories.
We are built to score everywhere and funnel everything into the post. Literally the only thing needed to beat this Jazz squad is a guard with a quick first step and a stretch big. That’s it. I am an idiot and I just deconstructed our entire defensive philosophy.
We are messed up long term sadly. Paying for DL's idiotic moves. Giving away all the pieces for Conley. Over paying Gobert. The stupid favors reunions and oh yeah and the draft picks given away until Jesus returnsWho gives a **** if Gobert has no offense. Look at the team built around him. If we can't win due to Gobert's inability on offense, then we've already lost.
The amount i've seen Memphis Mike Conley kill the jazz in the past, hitting shots from everywhere - where is that Mike Conley, fair enough he is older but we should be getting that Mike Conley every now and then.
Legit question, what can Quin do? When Rudy helps there is no cover for his man, the perimeter defenders have to move which would be Quin's instruction. But they don't, what other option is there? He tried House and O'Neale down the stretch which is a good move to try. What else is there?
Mitchell needs a lengthy athletic guard more than capable on defense next to him. If that means blowing away all depth then so be it, fill out the bench with turds
Royce is legitimately a good 5th option starter (he would be a great fit on New Orleans next to Jones actually). He's just not good as a 5th option starter who is your best perimeter defender. We have Royce as our starting PF, so not sure we are in the position to mock them. also they have Larry Nance Jr at the bench AND Zion who's scheduled to return, who do we have as our backup 4?
Conley is just doing what every player in their 35 year old season would normally do. Don't take what MJ, Karl, Lebron, CP3 did in their age 35 season as the norm.Who gives a **** if Gobert has no offense. Look at the team built around him. If we can't win due to Gobert's inability on offense, then we've already lost.

I’m not asking for anyone to ask draft questions during the playoffs. I’m curious if anyone has ever asked the FO why the **** they drafted Butler last year when we already had a logjam of similar guards. The Jazz drafting Butler last year made as much sense as the Lakers drafting a SF or the nuggets drafting a scoring but slow at defense center. It was a head scratcher then. And it’s even moreso now, after we see that teams continue to exploit our lack of perimeter defense. If the media ever asked about drafts during the playoffs I'd expect them to be fired for being dumb.
so my point stands, our starting 5 is not good. Royce and Mike need to go. or at least take the reserve role. Bogey too but his contract is up next season anyways.Royce is legitimately a good 5th option starter (he would be a great fit on New Orleans next to Jones actually).
