Are the Jazz going to trade Rudy?

If he wanted out he would already be gone and not be negotiating. He may decide he wants out because we haven't given him the Supermax but ongoing negotiations make no sense if he knows he wants to leave. Agreed that he is an emotional player and he has a huge need for outward respect.
I don't think Rudy wants out; I think Rudy wants respect. He's craved it every step of the way. For crying out loud, his jersey number is his draft spot as a sign to all those teams who didn't draft him. He has a massive chip on his shoulder.

He wants to be respected as one of the best so I'm sure he wants to be paid like one of the best. This is the argument I've been making for about a year now. The guy is awesome, but he's not the combination of offensive, defensive and off court marketing talent that's worth much more than the regular max. If he expects anything near the supermax, he has to be traded.

Almost all supermax contracts are regretted not long after they are signed. Players just don't live up to the deal. Look at even Steph Curry after his injuries are taken into account, he won't be worth his supermax contract. People will think he is because he's Steph, but the output from the day he signed the deal until it's completed will be underwhelming.

I think you are repeating what I said. So I agree.

Maybe... or he is basically saying supermax or nothing bitch. If they pay him then great. If not he just tells them let’s see what happens this year. Meanwhile he gets to see if Giannis signs... if not he’s the crown jewel on the market (or close to it). This is where DL and the front office learn about his true intentions and feelings. If he digs in then we should look to deal him. The return might be pretty meh but can’t let him walk for nothing.

I think it’s likely he wants to stay but the clock is ticking.
Agreed. I think he is saying Supermax or nothing. The question is, who folds first. If he wanted out and that was clear I think he would already be traded.

Remember the days when Stock and Horney didn't have an agent and negotiated their deals with Larry Miller over Subway Sandwiches during the noon hour? Rudy needs to think about that.
Stock had the best line “don’t embarrass me”. End of negotiation

Jazz could have just offered Rudy the supermax, everything would be done already and we would be bitching about overpaying him. So I don't see a reason to panic that they are still in negotiations.

Yeah, LHM got home town discounts every year and Stockton and Hornacek got millions of dollars below market value.

Those days are over.

A supermax for Rudy means we peak like the Deron/Booz days then coming crashing back down. Maybe, maybe we get to the West finals. After that our age catches up to us, Conley might just bolt, and the combined $80 million on Don and Rudy eats too many resources.

For f sake, we are relying on a 2nd round player we didn't trust 3 months ago to be our answer at perimeter defense depth when our Achilles heal is perimeter defense.

We simply cannot overpay Rudy. It will cost us Don.

Our achilles heal is not perimeter defense but improving our overall defense was clearly a priority. We took a big step to improving our D in a very cost effective manner. We did more by one contract that we could have done by spending a lot more on multiple perimeters guys. Who knows if it will work but very smart move

BINGO. If we lose him the narrative will be that we were cheap. If we sign him, the narrative will be that we are clueless, we overpay, we bid against ourselves, etc.

There are high-impact perimeter players still sitting out there who might cost nothing more than what Niang is being paid. The whole premise of the quoted post is flawed in a few different ways.
