Utah drivers can be bad, but as long as there are drivers from Idaho and Wyoming, they aren't the worst. The scariest place I've ever been in a car was Boston. Part of it was the streets, but most of it was the drivers.
 
I agree with the Wyoming part. I went to Jackson Hole on my honeymoon. I've never had so many people cut me off with nobody in view behind me only to go 5 below the speed limit. Longest drive of my freaking life, for more than 1 reason.

If I signal a lane change, 99% of the time I have no problem doing it, even trying to go west over the Bay Bridge on a Saturday. It has been well documented in this thread how Utah drivers feel about letting anyone in front of them, space allowing or not.

I agree completely. I stayed mainly in the East Bay area, but I found bay area drivers to be very good. And like you said, always willing to let you merge in front of them.

Small world! That's just a hop, step, and jump from where I used to live in Fort Washington. Same stake, even. I was in the Capitol Ward, which met in the Suitland stake center building. (I'm pretty sure you are LDS, apologies if not.)
 
Scariest time I have ever had in a car was in Erfurt Germany, in a trabant with 3 other guys. The driver, a large burly german gentlemen about 45 years old at the time, was, I am convinced, partly insane and had the little lawn-mower engine screaming as he whipped through twisty cobblestone streets in the rain at about 90 kmh, which I am sure was top speed for that little death trap. I lost track of how many times I thought we were all going to die. At least 3 times we slid the equivalent of 2 full lanes sideways when flying through intersections, ignoring all street signs. All the time the driver is chatting away like it is a sunday stroll through the park. Fun fun fun fun!
 
On my mission in Honduras there were multiple times I thought I was going to die on a bus in the middle of nowhere. It's nothing for buses or cars to pass each other going around blind curves in mountains. More than one burned and wrecked bus on the side of the highway between Tegucigalpa and Choluteca. When my parents came to pick me up, I was driving from one city to another and driving not quite as bad as some of the local bus/taxi drivers. My dad made me stop and pull over so he could trade me places.

This is true. I had an 84 ford highboy deisel truck. I just turned on the signal and started moving. They got out of the way. It was also dented and had a mat black finish so they could understand that I did not care if I had to move them. :)

I'm with YB, Boston was the scariest place to drive. I actually didn't drive at all, but rode in a bunch of taxi's. Honking, swearing, and cutting people off on purpose was the norm. I honestly could not believe what was going on. Our driver, from the airport to the hotel, must've honked his horn and screamed at the other drivers 20 times in the 15 minute drive. Craziness.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Guys have a right to buy Miatas if they want to.
