What's new

August 20:Big Match Turkey&Germany-Enes Kanter&Dirk Nowitzki match is starting now:) live Link here

A thought I've had for quite a while now is that you might be BEST served to play two players that are legitimate PF/Cs instead of true, locked-in position players. If Kanter and Favors sniff their potential... other teams are going to have a lot of trouble, especially since Favors and Kanter's strengths and weaknesses seem to fit very nicely together on paper. With exception to passing, they both have an exceptionally long way to go there.

But getting more to the point, I agree that Kanter COULD really be a SERIOUS matchup problem if he can keep or even increase his agility.

My feelings exactly.

Do you think Favors and Kanter would do better controling the paint then Okur and Boozer did? Because it is not big fives who were hurting us most but guards and wings who were penetrating in the paint and were meating zero resistance from our bigs as none of them had any shot blocking or help defense ability. I do believe Favors showed us some promise in that area but Kanter did not and there is no hope he will develop any shot blocking or above the rim defending ability. So far what I have seen in Kanters game he was slow to rotate and help during guard and wing penetration and reminded me Boozer a lot in those situations - I am not talking one on one defense I am speaking about help defense and protecting the rim. What Kanter seems to be capable of learning and maybe implementing in his game is Varejao/J.Collins type defense - move quick in position and take charge. Anyway it is just guessing game and with no season possibly it may take another year when we can check if our theories work in real game situation.

Boozer = Slightly undersized PF, not Athletic
Okur = Slow footed C

Favors = Big, Quick, Athletic PF
Kanter = Quick Feet and Hustle

Defensively Favors and Kanter have potential to be better than Okur and Boozer, much better.

Kanter has the motor and the strength to keep most anyone from pushing their way inside. Favors has the athleticism to be an elite help defender.

.

Favors not that much bigger then Boozer, one is listed at 6-10, 248lbs other at 6-9, 258lbs and Boozer is very athletic when he wants to. I have seen him dunk numerous times quite far from the basket jumping from both feet, not athletic players do not do that. Problem is he never showed any desire in playing defense or he just did not have any good defensive fundamentals or instincts. But I agree that Favors has much better defensive potential then Boozer for sure.
I am not sure about "quick feet and hustle" when it comes to defensive game of Kanter. Not convinced yet. Haven't seen him yet taking any charges or coming over from the weak side to help in those friendlies I saw, and his high school videos show exact opposite. We will need to see more of him and especially vs NBA talent players. Game vs Spain will be good indication if he gets minutes.

My feelings exactly. I know that Kanter has not come out and dominated like many (including myself) had hoped for but from what I have seen I am even more excited but in a different way. I hope you are right and that this lockout ends sooner than most anticipate.

I like the Love comparison. If Kanter hits it hard in the weigh room he can be among the league leaders in rebounding.

Your hate is starting to make me feel ill. Boozer athletic? That is one workd that I would not use to describe his game at all. I am not a Boozer hater. I know this might seem crazy to some but a healthy Boozer is better than Chris Bosh for me. Boozer is very crafty and knows how to position himself to get rebounds. He also uses his strength very well. He is a lot of good things but he is not athletic at all.

PS Any PF in the league can have a highlight dunk here or there.

ok, so our understanding of athletism is different then.... To me Boozer looks pretty damn athletic ( fast and explosive) in those plays here: Find me something like that from stiffs or non athletic players like J.Collins for example.

Well outside the 'two feet beyond the restricted area.' Finding a handful of nice dunks from a PF with years of experience is not sufficient evidence of good athleticism, imo. I don't find Boozer as overly athletic, but don't care to debate. I also don't find Enes as overly athletic, but rather a sufficient combination of size, bulk, strength, intellect, motor, and desire to compensate just fine.

well and that Kanter's dunk is way less athletic then any of Boozer's dunks. What was the point? Plus it is of one foot not two feet and nobody is defending it.
