I think everyone who has different beliefs and/or opinions than the majority should be banned. Especially when those beliefs/opinions are cleary wrong.

Good response. I'll bet all of us have voiced opinions at one time or another that have been unpopular. Last I checked, no one is pushing on my hand forcing me to open a thread against my will. I can use the ignore feature - or just not read comments from a particular poster.

You open a thread by Beantown or KatieMCR and you already know EXACTLY what their opinion is going to be. If you're offended one way or the other, just don't open the damn thread. If you really want Beantown to go away, just ignore him.

Um... for the record, I don't see it that way. I think a person could rightfully become frustrated with a troll like Beantown for reasons other than simple political and philosophical disagreement. For instance, I believe that I am perfectly capable of disagreeing with, and yet getting along with, many people whose philosophies differ greatly from my own. I think it's crude and dismissive to assume that a person would only want someone banned because of those kinds of disagreements. It is possible to correctly identify trolling even when you agree with the points the troll is making. Does Beantown offer anything positive to this board? I mean anything: humor? intelligent conversation? the occasional positive support of a fellow poster? Maybe so. Maybe, hidden in the waves of negativity, stupidity, offensiveness, caustic and insulting behavior, the mocking of other posters, etc -- maybe there's some kind of positive contribution that I've never noticed. Often-times I don't pay attention to who's posting what; I just read through the board and get the big picture.

I don't really care enough about Beantown or anybody else to get worked up about it. (Hopper is my kryptonite.) But... I mean, I would call a very, very few posters basically hardcore trolls. Recognizing trolling does not necessarily equate to wanting to oppress opposing views.

The guy is the most hardcore troll this board has ever had. Seriously. Look at his track record. Remember when he used to post on here about his gay uncle and how he's totally OK with that kind of thing? Now he is a total and complete bigot. He posts bigoted threads just to spark hate-filled discussions and/or to get attention. He has 0 rep. The entire board calls him Beanclown. He can't even make a damn game thread properly. I think if we get 20 votes he should be permanently IP banned.

There are tons of posters that I don't agree with. I don't consider them trolls just because they disagree with me. Beantown is "clearly" a troll. Just look at the types of posts he makes, and arguments he has been getting into.

Alas, anytime anyone ever gets banned (or suspended, or given an infraction, or even warned there might be an infraction forthcoming in the future) we're repressive facists who just want to make sure the board is no fun for anybody.

It's a true "damned if you do, damned if you don't" enterprise.

Part of the issue presently is that we had the "great reset" that brought a lot of older trolls back. It used to be we squashed those out as fast as we could go.

Somehow I doubt Katie would all of a sudden have tolerance of Elder Packer if he were perfect in every aspect yet didn't believe that homosexuals should be allowed to marry.

Katie, by your own words and actions you're a bigot. Your hostility towards the LDS religion is quite well known on these boards.

In other words, you should be intolerant of yourself. You're a hypocrite.

Which is typical of the homosexuals that I know as well. All that I've personally known have lacked self esteem, tolerance, and had really interesting childhoods. Perhaps one should do a scientific study to see if the upbringing of a "homosexual" child has anything to do with their decisions instead of just claiming to be "born" a certain way.

Finally, one preaching tolerance should actually live what they preach.

I love selective tolerance.... There was this guy who lived in the south named Jim Crow. He loved people, men and women. He loved this country. He loved the bible, exploring, capitalism, democracy, working, reading, farming, business, and singing.

Yet, he had hostile feelings towards blacks.

Should he be labeled intolerant? Or is he just exercising what Katie seems to be exercising, loving everyone but HATING bigots? LOL.

How is what Katie is doing to beantown any different than those who supported the Jim Crow mentality or any form of intolerance? She's tolerant of everyone EXCEPT for bigots. That's by definition, INTOLERANCE.

Philosophically speaking, can we have tolerance without someone being intolerant? can we have intolerance if everyone is tolerant? What is tolerance anyway?

Does Katie suggest that we as a society let anything go? No rules, no laws, no commandments, no social structure, just pure anarchy?

I'm also curious as to what a bigot is when it seems like nearly everyone on this board has strong (hateful) feelings about race, sexual orientation, football teams, or religion.

I do find it hilarious that Katie is ripping beantown after creating an innumerable amount of threads preaching tolerance. I would think that she of all people would be tolerant of bean's opposing views. You may not agree w/them, but that doesn't mean that they should be banned. That's part of a discussion, seeing other viewpoints.
