Not a perfect fit for this thread, but I thought it was funny.

heard about this on the radio this morning, sounds interesting!

customized beer flavors sort of like going to Starbucks and getting your latte customized to your taste

...Whether we tell the barista to add an extra shot of espresso, syrup, nonfat milk, or whipped cream, most of us customize our cup of coffee to our taste buds. Unlike how we take our coffee, beer comes in a variety of flavors that we cannot personalize — until now. Engineers at Cambridge Consultants have created a way we can have our craft beer, and drink it too, via an espresso machine-like device: “Hoppier.”

Hoppier allows bartenders to adjust the “hoppiness,” or bitterness, of each pint on demand while introducing the possibility of flavors of beer — just like a barista would do with a latte.

"Essentially, we're making an 'espresso' of beer," said Edward Brunner, head of food and beverage systems at Cambridge Consultants, in the press release....

Also apparently Bkack Fruday is a big day for craft breweries to release their special limited edition beers and people line up for hours to be able to buy a couple bottles

...This marks the fifth year in a row Goose Island has released its Bourbon County barrel aged beers on Black Friday, and last year more than 500 people waited in line for the chance to purchase bottles....

I think it is great for a brewery to have a traditional beer for the holidays. Those big 'ol stouts are referred to as "winter warmers" in England. It is traditional there to offer a few beers during winter that are darker and more potent than summer beers.

Brewing was very much a seasonal activity in England. Later, in Germany, the use of caves for "lagering" made them less dependant on seasons than the English brewers. In England certain beers were brewed in spring/early summer, and other types were made in fall. Today you can recreate whatever temp profile you want with a chest freezer and external temp controller.

I've never heard of Black Friday being special for local brewers...at least not here in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. Brewers release special brews all year round.

LOL!!! I just noticed I referred to is as "Black Fruday"

At any rate, seems to be more of a marketing gimmick as much as anything specifically related to the brewing process. Plus as GF noted, there have been seasonal brews for years and especially recently we have the various Shandys and the Radlers which seem to be more of a summertime type of beverage.
