Best seafood in SLC?

Stahp... I can smell the sarcasm from here.

Depending on what you get, Market Street.
Most of what I've tried has been good, but have had a bad experience there too... but had to do with the terrible service and atmosphere and not the food so much.

Indeed, the Market Street crowd is full of assholes, from the management all the way to the disrespected staff. And, I'm told that when they're busy, the'll quickly grill the outside of your fish, then pop it in the microwave to cook the center quickly.

That would be an excellent reason to not go there. It's worse than I though.
My good experiences there were years ago, my bad ones recent. Makes sense.

There isn't any sea food in utah. Duh. We don't have an ocean just a stinky salty lake. Duh
 
Spencers steak and chops (in the hilton downtown slc) has the best lobster bisque that i have ever had

Orem once had a Joe's Crapshack.

It didn't last. I think it's a Kay Jewlers now.

In all honesty, I don't know of a single really good seafood place in utah. So I'm interested to know what some of you come up with. There's a red lobster in Provo... No I think that's in Orem too actually. Is that real seafood? It's been years since I've been to red lobster.
 
Sadly, other than Pearl's suggestion, Red Lobster is probably the best you're gonna get.
 
Isn't market street grill supposed to be great? I remember doing oyster shots there when I lived there after plowing brews at port o call.

Port o call is now a federal courthouse. fwiw ( a rather fugly one to boot)

If you want to overpay wildly for poor to mediocre food, hit Market Street. The food at a place like McGrath's or Red Lobster is as good if not better, but you'll pay less. Bottom line - seafood in utah sucks, so don't pay a lot for it.

I like crab, shrimp, and lobster enough that even when its "not good", its still pretty good.

So like SJF said, go where its cheaper.

Joes crabshack has the best appetizer i have ever had ...... The Crab stuffed shrimp. Mmmm
 
I'm sure if I cared to eat the filterers of land's fecal matter then I'd be able to find plenty of good grub in Utah. Thing is, I don't often care for eating concentrated human or dog ****, so I don't spend much time searching it out.

If you think about it, everything filters fecal matter. The filtration process is where fecal matter comes from.


That said, Market Street is overpriced and mediocre. They have decent oysters, but that is only because oysters are fairly resilient and live quite a long time at low (near freezing) temps, so they can still be "fresh" even a week after harvesting. If you like oysters, market street is the best you will find likely, with a good variety. If you are looking for other seafood, then Red Lobster or some other chain is your best bet in Utah.
 
I played it safe at Market Street last night. Mainly got just crab and calm chowder, but I thought that was good at least. Decent atmosphere too. I'd give it a 6.5 or 7/10 and that's with the influence of a bad date baked in too. It might have given a solid 8 if I had been there with somebody I actually liked.
