Bismack Biyombo - Full Scouting Report

TT-
Biyombo could easily average 12 points per game and 12 rebounds per game and 3 blocks when he has fully developed.

I think that's a pretty reasonable ceiling projection. The Wallace comparisons are legit as long as the guy is dedicated to his game.

Throw in CJ Miles if we need to.

I keep hearing about potential Miles trades, but CJ is not eligible for a trade, because he could be FA next year. Only people who are definitely under contract next year (like Millsap, etc) can be traded before the CBA expires. CJ is not one of them.

Maybe someone could clarify this for me, but can't the Jazz simply exercise the option and then trade him as soon as the paperwork clears?

Isn't he a smaller version of Shaq or at least Shaq like in some ways?

He'll disrupt the paint, throw down monster dunks, rebound, miss free throws, and have the best post game quotes.

Exactly.

Which is worrisome to me...

Anthony couldn't even play the last few games against the mavs because he was such a liability offensively. While everyone is creaming their pants with the idea of a 6'9" center (which is concerning to me), everyone is forgetting the liability he'll bring offensively. Remember how frustrating our offense became with guys like AK and Brewer being left alone? Anyone remember Ostertag?

He may block/alter 3 maybe 5 shots a game.

But is that worth the 40-50+ possessions per game that he'll be a liability offensively? Do we have the shooters to make up for him? What about the post players? Realistically, how long must we wait to get some real production out of this kid? He's considered a project. Are jazz fans really patient enough to probably miss out on the playoffs again next year in order to develop their young talent?

And honestly, how young are we going to go? Perhaps... If anything... The Jazz might want to consider getting older just a little bit. Having a team of rookies and 2nd year players probably isn't the best recipe for success...

Just saying.

Is he any more a liability on offense than Collins?

The thing you don't admit is that you can't have a team full of just offensive players. You need balance.
The other thing is that Bismack looks like he can finish around the rim. I see him getting rebounds, and finishing hard.
How much of a liability is that? You act like he can do nothing because he can't shoot jumpers or post up right now.

It really depends on how his hands are. If he has soft hands to catch passes and finish quickly, his lack of offensive diversity won't be that big of deal.

No, I've admitted this many times before.

I think most who have followed the Jazz over the past 5-10 years know that a championship team needs balance.

Are we becoming too young?

What can we really expect from Bismack? Folks comparing him to Ben Wallace and then busting out all those DPOY awards are their own worst enemies. For Bismack to become a DPOY type player, he'll need to improve A LOT. Put on weight, learn the game, learn how to stay out of foul trouble, etc. Will he? that's a huge risk. And a long term project. Everyone thinks that he can, from day 1, be Ben Wallace. However, in this little world called, REALITY, he probably won't even begin to contribute until his 3rd year. He's a long term project, with no offensive game, who will struggle to not foul out in 3 minutes for his first few NBA seasons.

This is something the pro-Biyombo crowd refuses to acknowledge. They want to compare him to Ben Wallace, an all time great defender with defensive and rebound instincts that Biyombo can only dream of. This is comparable to the pro-Kanter crowd comparing Enes to Tim Duncan or Dirk. In reality, Biyombo should strive to be like Joel Anthony or Arthur (from the Grizz).

I'd maybe take it at 12. But not any earlier.

If the Jazz draft him, how do they intend to develop him with Al, Favors, Millsap, Evans, whatever we take at #3, and perhaps Memo coming back?

See folks, for NBA 2k, it's easy. Just draft and sign a bunch of players and it all works out.

But in reality, you have to take into consideration development, players' IQ, their height/weight/reach/athleticism, your roster, ages, salaries, etc.

Biyombo is the flavor of the weekend. Yet, he has some serious question marks.

I wonder who'll be the next one tomorrow? Maybe Jonas?

A month ago there was a Jazzfanz surge that we should consider him at 3. Then Kanter-craze and Jimmer-mania took over.

Exactly.

Jonas, Jan, and Monta have also had their moments.

Currently it seems, that Biyombo is the flavor.

Perhaps Singleton will be talked about next?

Cool story.

Also been told how great of a reach Boozer and Millsap have. That doesn't take away that they're still short and are very undersized on the Basketball court.

Having a good reach is one thing. But it doesn't make up for the inches lost in height. The two work together.

Thriller not understanding wingspan and standing reach is hilarious.

One of Thriller's classics.
